Young Mom Shot By School Resource Officer To Be Removed From Life Support Against Family’s Wishes

A young mother who was shot by a school resource officer in Long Beach, California and was declared brain dead is expected to be removed from life support on Thursday against her family’s wishes.

18-year-old Mona Rodriguez was shot in the head by a Long Beach Unified School District safety resource officer on Monday while inside a car that was attempting to flee the scene of an earlier altercation near Millikan High School.

According to the school district, the school resource officer was responding to an alleged fight between the woman and a 15-year-old girl. When Rodriguez, a man and a boy tried to leave the fight scene in a gray car, the school resource officer opened fire, hitting Rodriguez, Long Beach police said.

Rodriguez was sitting in the front passenger seat when she was shot, police said.

Video of the shooting posted online appears to show the officer, who has not been publicly identified, firing at least two shots at the car.

Investigators determined Rodriguez initiated the original altercation and that she and the 15-year-old girl “are known to each other,” though the motive for the altercation was unknown, according to police.

Rodriguez’s boyfriend of two years and the father of her 5-month-old son, Rafeul Chowdhury, got emotional outside Long Beach Memorial Care Hospital on Wednesday, saying, “I want justice for my girl, my baby momma, the love of my life.”

“I want him in jail for what he did to my girlfriend,” he said. “She did not deserve it.”

Family and friends held a candlelight vigil for Rodriguez Wednesday night. Family members said that the hospital has notified them that she will be removed from life support on Thursday against their wishes. If that happens, the family wants the Attorney General to investigate and wants the officer charged for her death.

“We want justice for my cousin. She did not deserve to get shot. She might have been doing something she wasn’t supposed to but she was unarmed, she was already fleeing, there was no reason for that cop to fire,” said her cousin, Alex Villasenor.

The family’s attorney said they have no recourse to stop the hospital from disconnecting the young mother from life support.

The hospital has not commented.

School officials said no students were hurt in the shooting and that there was no indication any students were involved. No one from the Long Beach Police Department was involved in the shooting.

According to Long Beach police, a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were also involved in the brawl. However, police are investigating their “participation level” in the fight.

Long Beach police and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office are both investigating the shooting. The school safety officer who fired the shots has been placed on leave.

“Investigators determined Rodriguez initiated the original altercation...”

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say...if the woman had not gone to the school and started a fight with the 15-year old...she would still be alive.

Do stupid things...win stupid prizes.

“I have not seen any video here. Did the driver of the vehicle she was fleeing in attempt to run the officer down?”

I have not seen any video here. Did the cop deliberately step in front of the vehicle so he could claim they were trying to run him down and thus excusing his act of intentional homicide?

Not like that hasn’t happened plenty of times before.

Or did he just cravenly shoot at the vehicle as it drove away from him because his precious little ego can’t stand it when someone doesn’t immediately bow before the Magnificence of His Shiny Badge?

Not like that hasn’t happened plenty of times before, either.

Yes, my attitude sucks but I do not care. I am sick of brawling females and violent thugz doing their thing. They have ruined every place they exist and you pretty much need to carry heat every time you go to a gas station. I am sick of them and I no longer give a hoot when any of them meets their end. Even little innocent 5 year old moppets in the hood with their dollie in their hands. Like the Bible says about the sins of the fathers (and mothers) carrying on a few generations downstream. Every time the cops kill some dang drug dealer or thug they take to the streets and loot, and blame white folks for their troubles - well they have sown the wind and they need to reap the whirlwind. I would much rather the thugz they adore send a few bursts from an AK-47 thru their windows as opposed to mine. If it kills an innocent kid, then so be it. Maybe they can print some T-Shirts up or set up a GoFundMe! Maybe they can have a prayer vigil or release some balloons! Whatever, they are the ones who ought to have to suffer for their lies and their resentment. They brung it on themselves. Taking a knee for dead drug dealers, and trying in every way to be identified with the lowest common denominator in their race, like George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, etc. Well, why should they complain when some cop identifies them as one of the bad ones? They asked for that. And you know something, if 50 innocent kids got gunned down in Chicago tomorrow, still nothing would change. They would still put thugz on a pedestal and they would still be blaming the white folks. Sooo, this White Folk is “shrugging” and saying,”Let them enjoy the fruits of their sins!” Good riddance! (None of what I said applies to people like Candace Owens, Thomas Sowell, or Larry Elder. They are good people and if something bad happened to them or theirs, then I would give a hoot.)

Just saw the video at the Daily Mail and yup, the douchebag with a badge cravely shot at the fleeing vehicle because the people in the car refused to kiss his ass as a glorified security guard.

He was not in ‘fear for his life’ and he deserves to have his worthless ass locked up for the rest of his natural life. And then I hope the inmates carry out the justice that the courts refuse to perform.

Cops who will shoot and kill ‘brawling females and violent thugz’ for not obeying orders will also shoot and kill you and your family for not obeying their orders...legal or not.

Be careful what you wish for when you think the Constitution doesn’t apply to certain classes of people. You may end up in one of those classes.

True, cops can be jerks quite often. But when you consider what they have to deal with on a daily basis, then being a jerk is a survival tactic. See, The Vulcan Hello.

“The Vulcan Hello” paradigm would logically apply to law enforcement in several jurisdictions. Knowing that they have a proclivity to murder people then it would follow that anytime they interact with someone then that someone would be wise to proactively and affirmatively defend themselves.

I’ve also long observed that the departments with the worst records on murdering people and committing civil rights violations are urban departments in Democrat owned and operated cities.

Conversely, in jurisdictions where Constitutional carry is the norm law enforcement agencies are significantly less inclined to provoke negative sentiments amongst the armed citizenry.

More guns, Less crime.

A lot depends on who has the guns. Here is a fun video from earlier this year! An Officer Tatum review!

If you want to cut to the chase, it is at 15:00 in.

“A lot depends on who has the guns.”

What’s your point with this video? That you think black people should be disarmed? That you think only the police should have guns?

Also, part of my point was that there are far fewer wrongful acts by police in Constitutional carry jurisdictions.

Tennessee where this video took place is not yet a Constitutional carry state. Also, I’m not seeing anything wrong with the actions of the police officer.

Frankly, in this case I think the officer would have been justified in killing the woman even after she threw down her pistol because she then turned on the car. The woman having already demonstrated criminal and lethal intent the officer would be justified in believing she could turn the vehicle into a weapon against him.

Meaning that this event in no way correlates with the shooting of a woman who was unarmed and in a vehicle that posed no threat to an armed school security guard.

The whole point of the video is that cops live in a very volatile world, where stuff can go South in a second. While many of them are jerks, like the cop who shot the family dog in Tennessee years ago, right in front of the kids, I tend to give them a lot of leeway. If true that there are fewer shootings by cops in CC states, that could be because of the guns or it could be because those sorts of states tend to be more conservative, realistic and law-abiding to start off with.

I agree with you that the officer in the Nashville video was justified, but the point is, would you ever have thought that woman was the sort to pull a gun and start shooting? I would not have, but if I was a cop I am sure experience would have made me more realistic.

Now as far as the chick on life support, it looked to me like she may have squeezed the cop when she tried to flee. But if not, she still tried to flee and that makes me not give a hoot about her getting shot.

There is an undercurrent here of mutual hostility between blacks and Latins, especially in California. The victim was Hispanic though apparently of European ancestry, with a boyfriend/ baby daddy with an Asian Indian surname. Blacks have a great amount of political power in California, despite their shrinking proportion of the state's population. As an example, blacks control the Compton city government, although Hispanics are a large majority in that city. They are allies of the liberal white middle and upper classes, as are most Asians, Koreans and Vietnamese partially excepted.

If the resource officer gets off with a light or no sentence, this could move the political needle away from the Pelosi-Newsom-Schiff axis of power. Like the shrinking minority of conservative and rural whites in California, Latins could see themselves as enemies of the powers that be. South Texas saw considerable shrinkage in Democratic votes last year vs. 2016.

In my experience, nobody much likes blacks even blacks. Black women hate themselves so much they put white girl hair on their head. That problem is not something white people can fix, although they can make it worse.

I think it is like with alcoholics. You know, one of their biggest problems is that they hate/loathe/despise themselves and their race and they take it out on everybody else.

Okay, this is where you’re going off the rails. The girl who was shot/killed was a PASSENGER in the car.

The video and the bullet entry points on the vehicle put the cop on the diagonal behind the right rear quarter panel when the shots were fired.

He was not in danger. He was not being squeezed.

But he is going to get prosecuted.

I thought the family makes the final decision on ending life support. Am I wrong?

A family can't demand that a hospital keeps someone on life support until their prayers are answered. There's only so many beds, rooms, nurses, and life support equipment. At some point, the hospital is well within their rights to step in and say it's over. The family is then free to reach out to find a willing long-term care facility that will accept their money.

Pardon me, I should have said the car tried to squeeze the officer. But, she was hardly innocent. From above,

“Investigators determined Rodriguez initiated the original altercation and that she and the 15-year-old girl “are known to each other,” though the motive for the altercation was unknown, according to police.”

And above: ““We want justice for my cousin. She did not deserve to get shot. She might have been doing something she wasn’t supposed to but she was unarmed, she was already fleeing, there was no reason for that cop to fire,” said her cousin, Alex Villasenor. “

So driving or not the cousin said she was fleeing.

“So driving or not the cousin said she was fleeing.”

And that’s the grounds for charges against the security guard. She was not a threat to the jackass with the badge and he shot into the vehicle recklessly and indiscriminately.

I’m not defending her actions, mind you, I’m condemning his.

Negligent homicide, manslaughter, and perhaps 2nd degree murder are possibilities here. If it can be shown that the rent-a-cop had previous dealings with the dead girl and that he held a grudge then we could even see murder one.
