What happened on Cape Cod was there was no real interest in white sharks there until Dr. Skomal and his asst. John Chisholm started tagging them in 2009. A tagging operation that continues today, with the help of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy sine 2013.
More and more white sharks showed up in the following years, and it naturally attracted the "Me Too" crowd of shark biologists many of who wanted a piece of the action. There is money and popularity to be made there.
Things go well beyond this dustup as you can imagine, and politics and other aspects are involved.
To this authors credit he has touched on an aspect of the behind the scenes goings on when it comes to white shark research. -Tom
Isn’t there a demand for shark fins in Quincy?
How delightfully catty.
“Aged At Sea Bourbon”?
Just what we need…..a bunch of drunken Great White Sharks cruising the beach and whistling at girls.
That is Roy Scheider's "bigger boat".
Note-Quincy is a city on Boston's south side.
There might be some demand there, but most Chinese are not interest in shark fin soup as it is not worth the effort to cook. -Tom
Now, cats, on the other hand.........................
“Substitute “WuFlu” for “white shark” and CDC for DMF”
“Ya just can’t make this $#!π up”
If anyone is interested in more of this behind the scenes shark researchers conflict on white shark studies on Cape Cod, here is an earlier March 2021 article by a different author below. -Tom

Sorry about that Cap. Just couldn’t help but have that jump into my head while reading it.
I’ll ask the mods to remove it.
For your information Channel 5 Boston is still pushing this confrontation with State and other shark researchers.
See the link below. -Tom
Fighting over government money.
Fighting over who gets academic credit for publishing papers.
Fighting over who gets to provide artificial solution (alarms/warning system)
All under the guise of “public safety” while using the megaphone of the MSM that is only looking for sensationalism
Are there scientists just trying to do research? Of course. But the people who channel the fundS for that research are a bigger problem than the sharks.
Fighting over who gets academic credit for publishing papers.
Fighting over who gets to provide artificial solution (alarms/warning system)...SNIPPED..
I would say you nailed it in those three statements.-Tom
