Hi All!
We are finally doing it - fleeing New York State! I haven't posted in forever, so I hope I'm doing this right.
So, we cast our net a bit wider, and found a BEAUTIFUL home in a small WV town situated on the Ohio River.
Admittedly, to the locals we may be paying more than the average property taxes in that area - but compared to NY, and nearly all of the PA homes we toured, well, we are DE-LITED.
We have learned that in WV gun laws favor the citizens as they were meant to. Fireworks are legal, which is a thrill for my husband in particular. The town is very small, but tidy. Every account I have dug up on that place always mentions how nice the townsfolk are.
Anyone here that can weigh in on WV/Ohio River Valley region? We are going to be very new to the whole culture there. Retiring very early.
Good move. NY is horrible. I left in 2000, never looked back.
Went to GA, but this state is turning, too.

Good luck with your escape from NY. My kin folk settled in the Athens NY area in the 1600’s. No doubt they are spinning in their graves now. No way could I go there now.

Yeah - with the NY GOV situation I want to gnaw my way out of NY as fast as possible. Too bad about GA. It’s a lovely state.

My youngest lives in FL, and when he visited recently he was stunned at the downturn our whole area has experienced. Very rapid.
My husband wanted to consider FL, but it’s a tad too humid for me (WV isn’t much better though) and those torrential rain storms! Been through that a few times - scary!
And alligators! LOL - nope.

We made our escape last summer and have not regretted it since.
FYI ... NY tax authority doesn’t like to let go. Make sure to cut all your ties with NY as soon as possible. Don’t leave licenses unchanged because it’s a hassle or is going to expire in a month or two so why not wait? Don’t! Do it now. Voter registration, the works

Brother lives in Florida and loves it there. You won’t be sorry. You might find you miss a white Christmas a little bit....I did...and you’ll be in air conditioning a lot....but other than that great to live there...good luck!
