George Frayne, best known under his alias as Commander Cody and leader of the group Commander Cody and His Planet Lost Airmen, died yesterday at age 77 following a battle with cancer.
"Early this morning, as I lay my head upon his shoulder, George’s soul took to flight," his wife confirmed in a Facebook post, noting that a pair of memorial events will be planned for both the East and West coasts. "I am heartbroken and weary, and I know your hearts break, too. Thank you so much for all the love you gave and the stories you shared."

FJB, is that you? Sure sounds like you.
Yes! Bill Kirchen was the guitar player for Commander Cody, and in the ‘90s he used to play every Thursday night at a hole-in-the-wall motorcycle bar in Northern Virginia, The Sunset Grill. I saw him there every week for years. He played an extended version of Hot Rod Lincoln that went on for ten minutes. See below. I saw him and Commander Cody just before the lockdown in 2019 at the Birchmere — a great show!

In Annandale just off 236! He headlined his band, “Too Much Fun” We must have crossed paths.
Sad to hear this. I saw the Commander and the boys a couple of times back in day. They were always a rockin’ good time.
Glad you two caught that. I did a copy and paste, naturally assuming that someone at UCR had enough high school English & Comp studies to do the proofreading. We are so doomed. *sigh* On the upside, they could write speeches for Uncle Joe and he'd never miss a beat. Hey, I only post the content, not write it.
awesome! thanks for the link, great fun!
RIP
Is that the first “rap” song?
RIP.
Thanks for the post but you should ring the mods. I do believe it’s CC & the Lost Planet Airman. Planet Lost sounds awfully lave.
