I have a 2013 Impreza. 5 speed. Funny thing is that “pzev” means that with a proper operating catalytic system the car has zero emissions at idle (and without revving it)

The Subaru idle stop function is pretty worthless.

As far as someone’s concern over engine wear, the engine isn’t the problem.. the starters need replacing quite often.

If these companies switched to air starters we wouldn’t have this problem. And if they switched to belt mounted electric assist alternators we wouldn’t even be aware of it starting.

But again, I’m 5 speed. I’m not part of that circus.

They tried this on big rigs back in the 70’s. It was more of a pain than a gain. The tank would only hold two starts worth because it uses so much air. Constant air leaks would drain the system and leave you dead in the water. And you could not just get a jump, you have to call an expensive service truck that has an air compressor.

It just wasn’t practical at all and they ditched the concept.
