I just did my first preventive dose of Niatonin: 500 mg niacin, 6 mg melatonin. Measuring 6 mg was a challenge, even with my new milligram scale. First, I don’t have a spoon small enough to portion out 6 mg. Second, the scale seems to have enough hysteresis that 6 mg won’t push it off zero. So, I followed smileyface’s suggested and used serial dilution. I measured 72 mg and mixed it with 2 oz (12 tsp) of water. Now I have a solution with 6 mg/tsp.
I mixed the niacin and the melatonin into about 12 oz of water and chugged it, per the directions. Within a couple of minutes I could feel a tingling on my ears and a few minutes after that I could feel a glow on my face which soon extended to my lower arms. My face is noticeably redder, but after 15-20 minutes the glow is becoming more widespread and less intense. It’s vaguely reminiscent of a mild, non-painful sunburn. As I’m about to hit the Post button, I’m getting a tingly feeling in my upper legs.
That’s kind of how mine went. Lol
As I posted my previous comment, Mrs. AZLiberty invited me to a late breakfast of a homemade gluten-free waffle (the Mrs. is celiac) with fried eggs and fresh serrano chiles from the garden. When I started eating I noticed that my swallowing sensation had changed. I usually eat without a beverage so as to allow my digestive juices and enzymes to have maximum effect, but this time swallowing seemed slightly restricted, so that I had to take smaller bites. Then my vision changed, with half of the pixels being replaced by glowing gold dots.
I was giving a running commentary to Mrs. AZL, who started to get worried. She dragged out the blood pressure meter, which recorded my BP as 78/53, with a pulse rate of 62. I generally have a low pulse rate, so that didn't seem out of the ordinary. But my BP has recently been 120 over something, so the BP measurement was definitely surprising.
After a few minutes the swallowing and visual sensations returned to normal. Now that an hour has elapsed, my blood pressure is up to 98/60, and I'm feeling almost normal again.
I definitely wouldn't do this before driving or operating heavy machinery.
