About the Niacin, when I do a search about how much Nicotonic Acid can be safely taken in a day, everything says the upper limit for adults is 35mg a day. It’s been explained over and over to me in here about how 500mg is safe but I don’t find any verification of that unless you are taking it under a doctor’s care. There is a HUGE difference between the recommended 35mg a day and 500mg or more. I might be dense but I’m also cautious. I thought the IVM was safe also. Fool me once because I trusted is one thing but fool me twice and I deserve whatever I get.

When I first read about this Niatonin protocol, it sounded too good to be true. I finally decided to try it, mainly as a no-flush challenge, which I frankly thought would be impossible. I didn’t think about it as a cure for anything, since I have no complaints. But hearing it could prevent and treat the coof caught my attention, because even though I have my emergency tube of horse paste, I have no desire to actually use it, or any drug at all. I learned long ago to “just say no to drugs!” (and doctors, too), as none of them had ever done me any good, and often the opposite. Nutritional supplements and herbs always had a much kinder and more useful result for me.

But back to the challenge part. After taking a 15 year old 300mg niacin tablet a few weeks ago, and flushing hard from my head down to my ankles for an hour, nothing short of experiencing it could convince me that I could ever take even more than that of fresher stuff without flushing at all. Oh, and about that ‘other’ supplement - I had an even stronger prejudice against using melatonin. I had no need for such a thing! After reading about people getting relief from insomnia with tiny doses of 5mg or less, I was convinced, having never had a problem sleeping, that any appreciable amount of melatonin would make me into a catatonic zombie!

And my experiment did not start off well. Fortunately, I picked an evening when I had nothing important to do. And 70mg of melatonin did end up knocking me out cold, even after experiencing another strong flush from 450 mg of new niacin powder that I hoped to “cancel it out” with. I had to stagger to bed a few hours early, and slept straight through to my normal time without my body even budging, let alone waking up. It took all the will power I could muster to keep on with the challenge after that!

But here I am, 8 days later. I’ve gone the past two days in a row with no flushes at all, nor being sleepy when I shouldn’t be, and 100% back on my usual schedule. If anyone’d told me that would happen, I would have laughed. But I’m not laughing now. And I feel alert and energetic! Yesterday I took 235 mg of melatonin and 550 of niacin, having nudged them each down and up respectively from the day before. I plan to keep tinkering with it, as there is something to this, and the two supplements definitely “do something” in synergy with each other!

If there are perceivable health benefits and it helps prevent me from getting sick, so much the better. If it can make the eye floaters that I’ve had for over 45 years go away, then I’ll be singing its praises from the rooftops. LOL

YMMV, IANAD, the usual disclaimers apply...
