I thought people got sick in the winter because people congregate indoors and can spread more germs . Not because of the temperature.

Respiratory viruses typically thrive in cold temperatures — winter.

This is mainly because people tend to spend more time together indoors.

“Respiratory viruses typically thrive in cold temperatures — winter.”

The reason they do so is NOT the cold. It is the lack of exposure to sunlight. The days are dramatically shorter and because of the cold temps people remain inside and out of direct sunlight. That is why viruses such as the flu and cold run rampant in the Winter months. Sunlight to viruses truly is a tremendous disinfectant.
