He sat through the entire last solo tour, which wasn't bad at all except for song selection (3 garbage ballads weighed down the middle but finished strong, sounded great)...
So haters, eat a sitting-down d---.

I’ve always been rather lukewarm to his music. Not bad, but never at the top of my playlist. That said, I saw in an interview once that as a lad he had the opportunity to be an extra (one of the screaming fans) in the Beatles Hard Days Night movie.

We saw him years back in Milwaukee. His showmanship was incredible. I could not believe it. Honestly, best concert, I had ever been to. He was non-stop and had great energy.
I wish him the best.

She had the whole show and that’s a natural fact.

"Face Value is really a good solo album from Phil, not as pop, as his later solo albums were. “The Roof Is Leaking” is a real good song on that."My favorite scene in the Genesis Documentary is when Tony says that Phil never played the "Face Value" demos for the band and Phil insists that he did and the band rejected everything but "In The Air Tonight", to the point where there is supposedly a pre-Abacab Genesis demo bootleg of it that is vaporware to this day.
There is surrounding data that suggests Phil is telling the truth, enhanced by the fact that Phil had been working off-and-on with Peter for the last couple of years and with Hugh Padgham, had recently invented that 'gated' drum sound on "Intruder" that would soon be employed on "In The Air Tonight" -- and that Tony cannot publically admit to pissing away $100 million dollars in likely successfully hogging co-songwriting credits, had "Face Value" been raided by Genesis for "Abacab".

"Not having Chester Thompson on tour this time is also a real bummer. He and Phil apparently had a falling out several years ago and have not talked since. (Phil was apparently snotty with him one day and that was pretty much it)."He wanted to be in the band, ie, the legal conglomeration that is Genesis. Everybody loves Chester but he had not written a single note of Genesis. CT got some very bad advice and I'll leave it at that.

I actually saw Genesis live at the LA Forum in 75 or 76 (not sure what yr exactly), it was all the original members. For me they were just ... meh? It was however the first laser light show I’d ever seen which was pretty cool.

I saw them on that same tour, and the crowd was not as enthusiastic (2002, Albuquerque, NM).

You could tell Geddy and Lerxst were not expecting that response.

I don’t know that’s true about Chester wanting to be “in the band.”
During the 70’s and 80’s i heard plenty of interviews where Chester said he was a studio musician and was happy doing what he was doing with Genesis. Daryl Stuermer on the other hand mentioned many times he wanted to be in the band and write songs.

XTC and Genesis are my two favorite bands, so that's an interesting link between the two.

Should have mentioned this- the first time I saw Genesis in July, 1978 at the Garden was rather famous as Gabriel came out for the encore, I Know What i Like. I didn’t know who it was at first but the crowd went beserk.

Were you a fan before you saw them?
When I first heard them my description of the band was “rock meets classical”. It’s what I expected at the concert. Frankly, videos of their early concerts actually do look pretty boring.

Since we’re talking that era, I am going to see KISS on Oct 9th. Only half of them are still performing. I don’t think they can Rock-n-Roll all-night now. I hope they don’t break something performing.
