It was a fun piece of Don Bellisario escapism from the 1980s, it was never meant to be “epic” television. That said, yes, any reboot is likely to be garbage.
The last year of the show, they introduced the idea of an evil leaper that would show up for Sam to have to deal with. A good writer could do something with this, but as said earlier, with all the wokeness, very little good TV will ever be made again.
He made Magnum PI, Airwolf, and NCIS.

The old show had him “leaping” into the mass media establishment version of history....but I guess if the universe has infinite timelines than their fake version might be possible in some of them...

It would be great if Bellisario would produce this. He’s on un-PC, but he’s old now. Too bad.
