Gasoline and alcohol are not given out by charities. The service station owner buys them and sells them for profit and thus stays in business. Tell him he has to choose between the two and only sell one and i do not blame the business owner for the unintended consequence of leftists trying to force people to do things the way they want them to.
Seems that George Munoz doesn’t businesses aren’t in business to provide essential services. They’re in business to make money.
And, as usual a government hack that knows none of that. Plus, think of the overhead in buying and selling a bottle of bourbon, compared to buying and selling thousands of gallons of gas and diesel. No brainer.
For many of these stores, all their money is made in the store, not at the pump given the margins, taxes, etc. Get rid of the gas pumps, one less thing to worry about.
Apparently, QT is going to try and fade away from pumping gas as well. They make so much in the stores with the food and drink that the gas isn’t worth it.
Yeah, that statement really sticks out, doesn’t it?
Get right down to it “essential services” are subject to supply and demand and the profit motive, just like anything else. And that’s a good thing, unless we as a society want state run gas stations? What is the alternative here?
Isn’t booze maybe $20 for a cheap handle? So they have maybe 400 or 500 individual liquor sales a day something like that.
And maybe 50 fuel sales a day? I guarantee they probably aren’t clearing $2000 a day on fuel? That might be total sales, I dunno. Profit margin on a gallon of fuel is maybe 20c if that. I bet the profit margin on booze is better.
Yeah, the suggestion that a gas station is in business for charity or whatever doesn’t make any sense. If they Lose money they will close their
doors. None of this has anything to do with rampant alcoholism. That’s another issue. Tough nut to crack right there, very sad. Drunks want their booze, and they will get it. Not sure how to fix that.
