My understanding is countries are running out of US dollars to buy imports so they are moving into crypto, like Bitcoin.
Worth noting Panama is a world financial center.
In this case, Panama uses the US dollar as the basis of its currency

An external currency would serve to stabilize the most volatile currencies, in my view.
My understanding is countries dollar reserves to buy imports is declining fast because of the Covid’s impact on global trade so they need an alternative to the dollar.
Maybe MMT is undermining faith in the stability of the dollar. Crypto is one attempt to bypass that, although at present its even less stable.
so they won’t take dollars anymore?
And of course, massive amounts of capital are going into blockchain companies, creating jobs and value. I suspect they want to capture some of that for their economy.
Many do not realize Panama City, Panama is a world banking center. Every time I've visited, I'm amazed at how the city is growing and flourishing.

El Salvador’s was a full up conversion though, yes? or just “legal tender” like Panama
