I'm sure it made sense for his lawyer to tell him to be quiet, but there should have been some negotiations going on. The idea that he could just wait it out was a fantasy.
If he truly killed her, his best option was to turn himself in immediately and try to plea to a manslaughter or lesser charge of murder. He has earned no mitigation points, and has ramped this into a national story. I have to say the lawyer is partly to blame.
On the other hand, if he's innocent, the legal advice has made him look guilty and created this unbearable public pressure. Again, really bad advice.
