That is true. I’ll just say I was never afraid to go anywhere in South Tucson. The people were all nice as can be. I wasn’t always happy when my boys played ball against them because maybe they were prone to making questionable calls that favored their boys. But I never feared gunfire or hijacking or bombs in South Tucson. That is not to say that such did not occur when I was not around.
I will say that the worst thing that happened when I was in Tucson was on a day when I was in South Tucson. It was early morning. One of my boys was playing ball. I noticed some helicopters. I noticed some ambulances headed I did not know where. It turned out that there was a mass shooting up the road in the “good” part of town. That was the day Gabby Giffords was shot at a place we sometimes went when we were in the area. (That Safeway roasts green chiles in the fall, and I do love some fresh, roasted chiles.)
Not permanent residents but my sister has been since 1964 and my parents were from 1973 until they passed. In addition, we have 2nd home a couple of blocks from 1st Ave and Campbell intersection just north of 1st so we have going on 50 years of Tucson under our belt. Regularly shopped at that Safeway on Oracle. Have grown disenchanted due to filthy liberal politics.
When ASU played UA in Tucson in was bedlam when the game was over. If ASU won it was not a friendly crowd.
