They'll play a game Saturday morning in which the home team is a 22-point favorite. The game was deemed so non-competitive that the visiting team tried to cancel it a scant six months ago.
Forget about the label once affixed to the most notable game in this rivalry's history: Game of the Century. Nebraska-Oklahoma is not even the game of the day headed into Week 3 of the 2021 college football season.
The rivalry is a shell of its former self, the threads of history yanked apart by time and conference realignment. A rivalry that used to measure itself against any Iron Bowl or Ten-Year War you can name has dimmed, but it is not … quite … gone.
Look into the 70-year-old eyes of Johnny Rodgers. Saturday marks the 50th anniversary the Game of the Century, which ended with No. 1 Nebraska on top of No. 2 Oklahoma, 35-31, on Thanksgiving Day 1971.

How I miss the Wishbone!
A good program where occasionally everything falls the right way and has a great year. Then next year lose 4-5 games
Are you brave enough to ride the Auburn Fan Experience?

In that case, you're definitely NOT an Auburn fan. It's family. Win, lose, or draw, we LOVE Auburn. We're All In All the Time.
Bama fans love Bama football. Auburn fans love Auburn. Football is a part of that.
I will never know the depth of disappointment and anger felt by home grown Husker fans but I know it’s huge. In the brief time we lived there, we fell in love with it all. It carried forward in the form of loyalty for these decades. When Solich was terminated, a friend there suggested it was because of something other than his coaching abilities between he and the AD. He was still a winner. We were still going to bowl games. The fans were still flocking. We never thought we wouldn’t come back in any game. It would be next to impossible to believe the Black Shirts would fail.
I think a score of 70-10 and Texas Tech’s Mike Leach running up the score
on “short pass Callahan” was one for the books. Nothing was ever the same on offense. How could it be? Callahan didn’t know how to coach Nebraska football.
I think Scott has to look like he knows what he’s doing against Oklahoma.
As much as I admire him, you know?
Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
That would be lovely! LOL
Ambitious and worthy. 😎
UConn Basketball was something else.
I grew up thinking college football teams were all named “them” except for Notre Dame. My Dad was a fanatic.
An Auburn fan would watch the Bama/Florida game and root for Florida.
Expecting an Auburn fan to watch Auburn vs GA State isn’t family, it’s family abuse.
THIS Auburn fan, Auburn Alumna, and Auburn family member is going to watch the Auburn vs PA State game this Saturday and I will be rooting for Florida when I catch the scores. I stick with my Auburn Tigers through thick and thin. I know of no true Auburn fan who will be doing otherwise.
You’re like an old boyfriend I used to have. We dated through the first quarter of our freshman year, played clarinet in the band together. At the Iron Bowl, when it was still played in legion field, the score was 16 - 3 in favor of the bad guys at the beginning of the fourth quarter. This ex started bad-mouthing the Auburn players. This continued throughout the quarter even though we blocked two punts, recovered the ball on each and ran it in for two touchdowns. We won 17 - 16. Sweet numbers! But this twerp just wouldn’t shut up. He tried quoting statistics to me. I showed him the only statistic that mattered - the score at the end of the game.
That was the end of a not-so-beautiful relationship. We did NOT sit together on the band bus ever again.
I said GA (Georgia) state. Not Penn St.
Should read....
“...fire FLAMING arrows at the wagon!”
New Kings can hurry up. I’m tired of Bama, Clemson and OSU every year.
Probably consulting with Joran van der Sloot on making his get-away.
