They supposedly stopped at a hotel, where he spent the night in the room and she stayed in the van.

Here’s my theory: She left the van before morning and started walking. She got lost in the Utah wilderness and died or was picked up by someone and hasn’t been heard from since. He’s not talking because he honestly doesn’t know what happened to her.

Seems quite possible to me as well.
Time will tell.

Could be. Just imagine the possibility that the guy wised up and told her “I’m breaking up with you. I can’t take this anymore.” He basically drives away, and she hooks up with a predator. No one knows about the predator. He buries her in the desert. The boyfriend is totally screwed. Maybe he didn’t do anything, but he’s 100% in prison for life.

Insightful. Perhaps she has had a psychotic break and is still alive but so mentally gone/shattered personality that she is even unable to contact her parents, perhaps blaming them for letting her travel with the guy. If your insight is close to accurate then she has separtated herself from not only the guy but the reality she was in.

That’s as good as any other WAG. Eventually, the story will come out.

IF she had just disappeared he most likely would have reported that to the local police in WY or UT.

More likely he snapped and killed by accident or because she pushed him to the point that he snapped. Manslaughter

IF her body is not found, they can not charge him unless there was blood evidence in the van.

He can just say, we argued, she left and he never saw her again.

He is mentally ill too . He took a now stolen van 2000 miles away and he us innocent ?
The van was hers. He and his parents are blocking an investigation that now involving the FBI ?
But he is innocent ?
The police took it from the parents who are also blocking the Cops .
But he us innocent ?

No wonder my brother calls Jurors trials scary .

I have some doubt whether the kid killed her. If she’s that unstable maybe she took off and he really doesn’t know what happened to her or if he accidentally hurt her defending himself I would think the attorney would be wanting to jump on that by taking his client in for an interview. The whole thing is screwy.

I would not agree with that. If that was the scenario, he'd be leading the search parties and actively cooperating with all law enforcement to help find her. By going home and lawyering up, he's made himself the prime suspect.

Then why not just say that?
