Because it’s not just the “back channel” talks. It’s the secret meeting with military leaders to limit Trump’s authority on future attacks as well as giving China a heads up if there was an attack.

If this really happened, there is more to this story. If these men were the sober analysts this narrative is intended to portray them as, they would have bottled up Trump’s decision to nuke China and never let it see the light of day. China or no one would have ever known. The call to China would have been completely unnecessary. But a call of some type was made.

In their retrospection, in trying to cover themselves by portraying their fear that Trump was unhinged, they are giving themselves away as either completely stupid or trying to provoke a nuclear war. I would vote on the war angle. I say “their” because the general certainly did not act alone.

Yup. Some of us knew that, especially after the steal in November, he had no power, because he had no support. [1][2][3]
There wasn't anybody left who was going to follow any of his orders. Went from the vast majority of the fed gov against him, to everyone but perhaps a couple of people (ex. Pompeo, Meadows) and they...had no power, especially after the steal.

...and, tangentially, this notion that milley had such grave concerns that Trump was going to launch a nuclear war, so he had to subvert him and conspire with the Communists in China and Trumps political rivals...is pure B.S. milley knows full well, at a minimum, Trump couldn't launch a nuclear war all by himself and that Trump was the most anti-war, get out of foreign entanglements President the country has had in well over a generation.

Exactly. They knew, the officers who would be tasked to carry out a presidents decision to launch nukes, were not following orders from Trump anymore. They decided they didn't report to civilian authority at that point.

The irony is, other president's invoked the insurrection act for FAR less.

Past presidents have invoked the Insurrection Act 19 times, both with the request of the Governor of the affected state, and without their request. Note that every one of those 19 previous invocations of the act, were due to violence or disorder in a single city or single state/territory. President Trump invoking the act due to NATION WIDE violence, looting, arson and depravity of civil rights would certainly have been lawful and warranted.
