Faroe Islands: Anger over killing of 1,400 dolphins in one day
BBC ^ | 15 Seot 2021 | Joshua Nevett

Posted on 09/15/2021 11:17:15 AM PDT by DUMBGRUNT

Boats herded them into shallow waters at Skalabotnur beach in Eysturoy, where they were killed with knives.

The carcases were pulled ashore and distributed to locals for consumption.

Warning: This article contains graphic details and images some may find distressing.

But the scale of the killing at Skalabotnur beach has shocked many locals and even drawn criticism from groups involved in the practice.

He said the previous record was 1,200 in 1940. The next-largest catches were 900 in 1879, 856 in 1873, and 854 in 1938, Mr Mikkelsen said.

"This is a good time for campaigners to put even more pressure on. It will be different this time because the numbers are very big."

They are in general considered a nuisance. They eat a lot of fish!
And, believe or not, they are tasty!
Definitely part of the Nordic culture.
Since Bernie loves this culture, maybe, instead of destroying healthcare, he could start with dolphin hunting!

Just remember dolphins eat tuna. So, for every can of tuna you eat, means another dolphin goes hungry. 😏

Before Reagan destroyed the US Tuna Fisheries canned tuna and porpoise were in balance

The indigenous peoples would probably reply: “Why does your country allow murder of five-week old human fetuses with a heartbeat?”

From the article, a majority of the Faroe island population are heartily disgusted by this.

Because they all know fish come from the supermarket.

Yeah, harvesting fish is one thing. Harvesting cetaceans is a different kettle of fish entirely.

Well maybe they don’t eat seagulls, but they do catch and eat sea birds. Check out the video link below. It’s very interesting:

It’s called nature. My daughter has a friend who lives on the islands. It’s very remote and they eat what God gives them. Fish.

We have absolutely no business expecting others to live by our standards.

Pigs are smart animals too. How was you bacon this morning?

Before Reagan destroyed the US Tuna Fisheries
What did Ronnie do? I'm not familiar with that story.
I worked on albacore boats based in Long Beach for a few seasons in the early 70's and there were two gigantic canneries right there (Starkist and Chicken of the Sea) with literally thousands of employees. There would be a dozen lunch trucks lined up just at coffee breaks.
Now the canneries are in American Samoa or Guam, a pox on whoever is responsible.
