If the SUV was driven into a cornfield and contained 4 dead bodies, what makes it “abandoned?”

If the SUV was driven into a cornfield and contained 4 dead bodies, what makes it “abandoned?”The way I read it is that the SUV was abandoned, the four people got in it, for some reason, and then got shot.
It's not like journalists are some of the dumbest people in America or anything.

Maybe all the deceased are in the back of the SUV, indicating that it was driven by a 5th person who abandoned it and was probably picked up by 6th person.

What makes it abandoned?
Probably the footprints leading to the road.

Bad move to drive it into a cornfield, surrounded by thousands of “ears.”
...apologies
