But the media can be relied upon to run with it instead of the Afghanistan self-inflicted disaster. One good thing about the Afghan disaster: it weakened Biden's presidency. Cost him a lot of respect in the eyes of many Americans.
Smart dictators expand their powers after victories, using them as popular mandates for more power. It's harder to expand one's power after a disaster, when one is held in popular contempt.

What pandemic? A virus that is very contagious but doesn’t make most people sicker than other viruses that have always been around? True, it is weirder and was probably created in a lab, but if you’re healthy you have nothing to fear and if you’re not, you can either get healthy or have everything delivered to your safe location.
There is no reason for tyranny. This isn’t Ebola with 50% death rate.
