"Last Song" is a 1972 hit song by Canadian trio Edward Bear. It was the first release from their self-titled third album and was their greatest hit. The song is written in the key of F# Major.
"Last Song" spent 18 weeks on the U.S. charts, and peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached number one in Canada, and did the same on the Adult Contemporary charts of both nations. "Last Song" was certified gold in the United States.

While we are 1 hit Canadian wonders of the ‘70s, could I put in a good word for R. Dean Taylor?

The band took its name from Winnie the Pooh whose real name, according the original classic children’s books, was Edward Bear.
Thanks for that. They had a song a couple of years before that with “You, me and Mexico” which was supposedly about the same girl. Great song, too.
Another good one!
Last record I spun when I moved on from a radio station in Illinois in’78.
Preceded by a Johnny Paycheck tune.
😉
So you were a DJ, and picked songs which symbolized your departure. Good work.
Notwithstanding that this band were one hit wonders, there was a concerted effort in the 70s and 80s by the record companies in the US to suppress play of many Canadian bands that would have been mega-stars had they been exposed to a 200 million plus audience instead of 25 million (70s-80s). I challenge you to listen to bands like Honey Moon Suite, or Street Heart or April Wine and tell me they couldn’t have been super groups in that era. The record companies could only do so much and there were breakout artists they could not suppress. Since the 80’s, per capita, I think Canada has more tier one singers/entertainers than any other country in the world. Bob and Doug McKenzie should do a song about it like Adam Sandler did for Jews (btw William Shatner was not just Jewish, he is Canadian - started his career in Montreal ☺️
But wasn’t that in response to Canada passing a law dictating that a certain percentage of songs played on the radio in Canada had to be by Canadian artists?
My Canadian wife likes Anne Murray.
Good for you (from a former radio DJ).
I am assuming the title of that song included the words ‘job’ and ‘shove’.
Lead singer reminds me of David Cassidy.
Teenage Me: *SWOON* :)
Anyway, like our early entries into WWI and WWII, it was worth it because now you have to keep Justin Bieber.
I recall that song. Well written and well performed.
At first, I thought it was from the group America; but this song is more of an Ode and more complex than America’s usual pop piece using CSNY as a model. The production is far more light and unguilded compared to more famous folky groups.
I knew it wasn’t the group Bread, because David Gates sang on all the lead vocals, and that wasn’t David singing.
‘Don’t Wanna Fall in Love’ by Jane Child
Still fun and totally DANCE-ABLE all these many years later.

Ouch, that's gonna leave a mark.
LOL 😂. Thanks for appreciating the good natured humor. I’ve been an expat for 26 years and love my adopted country, but still love Canada 😊.
Nothing gets by you!
