Lyft and Uber announced Friday they will pay the legal fees for any of their drivers who are sued under Texas’ new law that prohibits abortion after a heartbeat can be detected.
The law allows private citizens to enforce the measure. Though patients may not be sued, any individual can sue the people “knowingly” assisting the procedure, including doctors, those paying for the abortion and clinic workers.
Plaintiffs in litigation cases resulting from the law’s implementation can earn up to $10,000 in damages.
“Drivers are never responsible for monitoring where their riders go or why. Imagine being a driver and not knowing if you are breaking the law by giving someone a ride,” Lyft said in a statement announcing the policy.
“Similarly, riders never have to justify, or even share, where they are going and why. Imagine being a pregnant woman trying to get to a healthcare appointment and not knowing if your driver will cancel on you for fear of breaking a law. Both are completely unacceptable,” Lyft added.

Wow. What a brave and principled act - protesting a law that wants to save babies from being killed. They must be proud.
I can understand paying legal fees of someone sued without just cause.
Howver, I cannot understand, or forgive, donating money to Planned Abortionhood.
I’d say that I’ll boycott pro-abort Uber and Lyft, but I’m already boycotting them. I’ve been in a couple of them when friends insisted (and were paying), but I’d rather walk than get into a dirty car driven by some amateurish hack driver from a third world country. An Uber/Lyft driver hit my car last year. Dude knew practically no English, and was apparently following the rules of the road of Uzbekistan. Such a mess.

The two companies that got corrupt punk Bill DeBlasio to violate the NYC taxi medallion contract which gave Yellow cabs the sole right to pick up people from the street. Those Medallions were devalued overnight to virtually nothing causing the mass suicide of taxi drivers who lost everything.

I never in my life seen immigrants so harshly abused as those in NYC when it came to liberals. So much for the “working man”. In summary, someone at Lyft did something really bad or crooked and they need to virtue signal to get insulation.
Probably pressure to remove board and/or management bc they suck, so here’s a meaningless gesture they can point to and call the activist sexist if they go forward.

I think the app requires you to enter the destination. Then drivers bid on a price to take you there.

Other than Uber or Lyft - are there any other ride share apps? Since they support dead babies, that will make any ride I have with them extremely uncomfortable. Need a pro-life alternative.

What union? There is no taxi union. Well there is the “NYC taxi workers alliance” which is just a protest group that is useless, but there’s no union.
What the city did is stab these taxi drivers in the back. Imagine the city sells you a license to operate a store on a busy street corner with the guarantee only you can be on that street corner, and you are your friends invest your life savings into it and then a year later the city allows vendors to set up in front of your store, vendors who pay nothing, require no license and they are selling everything you are selling how would you feel? That is what democrats like Bill DeBlasio did to those guys. So much for democrats being for the working man.
