CHICAGO — Some River North residents and their alderman are fed up with increasing crime in the neighborhood.
“You just don’t feel safe in your own neighborhood,” said resident Frank Gurick. “This is no way to live.”
Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd Ward) addressed what he called a dramatic spike in crime on WGN Radio.
“I’ve been trying to get foot patrols permanently dedicated to State Street until we get it under control,” Reilly said.
He has sent letters this week to Mayor Lightfoot and CPD Supt. David Brown asking for an increased police presence along State, Hubbard and Clark streets Thursdays through Sundays.
The sentiment from residents and Reilly comes after a video surfaced showing two men being violently beaten in the 400 block of North State Street last weekend.
Brandon Jefferson, 33, of Wheeling, is facing charges of robbery and battery after police responded to the scene Saturday at around 1:30 a.m.
CWB Chicago released a video of the State Street attack. In the video, two men are beaten while bystanders watch and record the assault on their phones.
The Chicago Police Department faced criticism for taking six minutes to respond.
Then on Wednesday, a 24-year-old Chase Bank employee was stabbed in the 600 block of North Dearborn. She died from her injuries on Friday and a man was charged in her death.

I have no idea what the Chicago Police Department staffing level is like, but if it’s anything like Portland in these other cities to see the police under the bus, hundreds of officers have retired or quit and no one likely wants to come back to work those shifts so they are probably chronically understaffed.

Yup. Picking them up doesn't help if a crooked judge won't set bail or a crooked prosecutor won't prosecute. Ditto if a terrified or rigged jury won't convict. Worse if they're jailed and then released. All of this is happening.
Chicago PD has a record-setting number of officers retiring and/or taking LEO positions elsewhere in the state or leaving the state.
CPD is also grossly undermanned by anywhere from 1,000 - 2,500 officers depending on who you believe: the police union or the city.
Officers almost routinely work 10-12 hour shifts on weekends, vacations & holidays can be cancelled almost at the drop of a hat by Lesbian Licker Liberal Lori Lightfoot (streetname: Five-L) when conditions warrant. Read that: gang violence, riots, flashmob robberies, etc..
NO ONE in their right mind wants to be a Chicago Cop anymore and the exodus from the city to the suburbs is just moving the shitshow that is Shitcago out here to the burbs.

The police arrest the thugs, gang-bangers and criminals, the Crook County States Attorney Kim Foxx refuses to charge them and releases them.
If on the outside chance a thug, gang-banger or other criminal element type is actually charged, they're far more often than not let out on recognizance or a very light bond -- if the Judge doesn't just throw the case out in the first place.
Recently Officer Ella French was murdered by a gang banger during a routine traffic stop. That gang banger sits in jail today, as he should. The outcry from Chicago residents was pretty damn' loud.
The FRIEND of the gang-banger who as a resident of the state of Indiana bought the gun that killed Officer French and gave it to the gang-banger that killed her KNOWING the gang-banger wasn't allowed to have a weapon was let out of jail on a $4,500 bond by a liberal, north suburban judge.
$4,500 for a FELONY STRAW-MAN PURCHASE of a firearm, giving it to a gang-banger who wasn't allowed to have a gun, took it across state lines illegally and murdered Officer Ella French?
The rank and file Chicago PD were really pissed about it and they made that known.
Everything in Chicago is corrupt to the core.

Funny, just hearing the word “Alderman” instantly conjures up images of 100 times more corrupt than normal democrat dripping in cronyism, and nepotism, with side deals enforced with an iron fist upon those who are honest, pay taxes, and try to live within the rules of polite society. I picture someone who will selectively bend or enforce rules such that they always personally profit in some way, and/or punish their enemies and/or unfairly tax or burden any individual/company that threatens the bottom line of any family or crony.
