So how did Mac Jones beat out Cam Newton? A former Patriots mainstay claims that Mac Jones showed a much greater mastery of the offense.
Linebacker Rob Ninkovich recently claimed that the rookie knew the offense so well that he was helping Newton learn the playbook.Jones was having fewer “mental errors,” per Ninkovich, along with a better understanding of the offense. Ninkovich also pointed out that Newton did not run the no-huddle offense or two-minute drill during the preseason.
Fewer than two weeks ago, however, Newton was the starter — according to coach Bill Belichick. Jones took charge after Newton missed five days due to a COVID “misunderstanding.” Maybe Jones would have supplanted Newton sooner or later. Newton’s absence surely helped it happen sooner.

muh dick
Rodman has better taste...
Yep, also where Condredge Holloway, UT Vol QB Had a great career....
Last year. That is why he missed some games and was run down.
Theisman too started in the CFL.
Actually, a “pure picket passer” is one dimensional by definition. The best are tthe mobile quarterbacks who also can throw, and there are white and black quarterbacks who can do that.
See Dan Marino. Probably why he never won a Super Bowl.
That’s right...I’d forgotten that...
Cam Newton sounds like Mike Vick. Freakishly athletic, but it when it comes to memorizing he has a hard time.
So what improves memory? That’s what the Pats and the Falcons should have focused on instead of more athletic crap.
QBs like Tom Brady could memorize the book and was athletic enough to be able to get the job done.
Never forgot that.
Cam Newton was clearly bought off to lose the SB that year.
Carolina should have won it.
Doug Flutie also....
Cam Newton’s Wonderlic score was 21, right around the average of all NFL players and five below the quarterback average of 26.
Rodman was one of the greatest defenders and rebounders ever.
Rodman was the heart and soul of those great “Bad Boys” Pistons teams. Worked his ass off, and became the greatest rebounder of all time, people forget how good he was.
Yep. He would guard from two-guard to center. An absolute ball of energy and hard work.
He would ride the exercise bike for an hour after games quite often.
This isn't a black/white thing. Joe Montana, Steve Young, and John Elway are all HOF QB's who were very dangerous running the ball as well.
100% i’ve still got his book around here someplace
and he REFUSED to call madonna MADONNA... he called her Tia
While not good, it does mean rather less than it appears.
Mac Jones has multiple years in that same system, and Newton, not having a training camp last year, ran a simplified offense for the Patriots last year.
Vince Young got a 6.
Wally Pipp took a day off - no injury.
Brady replaced an injured QB
Jones replaced a lazy, stupid & inaccurate thrower who took a few days off and still believed he was a MVP & ..even after his infamous fake attempt at a “tackle”,
