The march began peacefully in the Afghan capital Kabul as demonstrators first went to the country’s Defense Ministry to pay homage to soldiers who died fighting the Taliban.

“We are here to gain human rights in Afghanistan,” said 20-year-old protester Maryam Naiby, the Associated Press reported. “I love my country. I will always be here.”

Things got ugly after the women then marched to the presidential palace. After initially trying to engage with the protesters, Taliban special forced rushed the crowd and shot into the air. They also fired tear gas, sending the women fleeing.

Though the Taliban have promised a more open and inclusive government than when they last ruled the country more than 20 years ago, many remain skeptical.

Any society that denigrates women is doomed to eternal madness..

We should have trained only women for the Afghan forces.
They have no chance now.

Well, someone better tell those Talibanners to knock it off and behave. We’ll need the elite social workers reaction force with their patented sternly shaken fingers to handle this, don’t you think?

Gee whiz, I can't understand why anyone would be "skeptical" about the new improved Taliban. /s

I wonder what the reconstituted ISIS and al-Queda have to say? "Yes, we are warm and fuzzy peoples who will work with the inclusive Taliban. You have our word."

You may right. Obviously, the A-crap men armed forces didn't have the balls. I wonder if anyone here can give a similar or better example of a military force folding so quickly with over-whelming size?

It’s astonishing that a woman could grow up in that society and think it would be okay to have a protest march. I’m guessing their social IQ is pretty low.

It’s always the women who show the strength & courage to protest. Same goes for Iran.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Taliban will do next? They may allow women to work (but with permission from their husband). Or they just may decide that they’ll rather remain medieval.

You submit to the Taliban or you kill them. Time for the ladies to arm up, maybe grab some of that weaponry we left behind. Might as well. Nothing to lose thanks to Jao Bi Den.

“A 20 yr old never knew life under the Taliban.”

It’s a Muslim country. You’d have to live a pretty protected life not to realize the dangers of acting like you’re an American woman in America.

It’s like living in Russia and thinking you are free to write anything you like about Putin. I’ve read about several women, it always seems to be women, who slam Putin in the press, answer their front door and get gunned down. Each time it happens I think, “Where do they think they are? New York?”
