Covid virus particles are smaller than the air openings in the mask so wearing a mask to keep you safe from the virus is like putting up chicken wire to keep out mosquitos.
But as the author says, it’s a matter of government control and I know that first hand. On a trip last April I took too long to finish my drink and the conductor angrily told me if he saw me again without my mask I would be thrown off the train at the next stop. But defying an airplane flight attendant subjects you to arrest at the next arrival location.

Not exactly. At that point, there's other forces that allow masks to filter out smaller particles (think static electricity), so they are still somewhat effective. But not 100%, and certainly not if proper decon procedures aren't followed (which 99.99%+ of people don't follow)..
