i read the lancet study yesterday. didn’t impress me much. about as far away from a double blind, randomized clinical trial as you can get. proves zero, and misleading interms of their “defintion” of the unvaccinated, imo.
in terms of your other link (story), it contradicts itself in the last paragraph (buried lead) with a study that shows very leaky vaccines more in line with the hard data from Israel:
“However, in July, the effectiveness against infection was considerably lower for mRNA-1273 (76%, 95% CI: 58-87%) with an even more pronounced reduction in effectiveness for BNT162b2 (42%, 95% CI: 13-62%).” and that’s a pharma/mayo study so it’s biased as well).
honestly, for the fully vaccinated I see an upside to breakthroughs. That is, let’s accept as a given that ‘natural’ infection is better than ‘acquired’ immunity. There was a study I’m sure you saw a few days ago that pointed to natural immunity is better than one shot, and natural immunity plus one shot imparts better protection than two shots. So going along that line of reasoning, a fully vaccinated person being mildly reinfected would convey the ultimate immunity to any further challenge by Delta or delta-alikes.
but back to leaky vaccines. It’s probably more accurate to say leaky immune system, since those that recovered from covid are still vulnerable to Delta, but I kind of look at asymptomatic and mild reinfections the same way people decried ‘cases’ last year, feeling they were insignificant, and wanting only hospitalization numbers. So that’s what I look at. Hospitalizations/deaths count, all else is noise.
