WINSTON-SALEM — A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday after one student was fatally shot at a North Carolina high school, officials said.
Winston-Salem police Chief Catrina Thompson, fighting back tears, told a news conference that Mount Tabor High School went into immediate lockdown as emergency responders, sheriff's deputies and police officers arrived just after noon to search for the suspect, who she said was believed to be a student at the school.
The injured student was taken to a local hospital, where he died, Thompson said.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office announced on its Twitter page that the suspect, who was not identified, was apprehended. No other details were immediately available.
Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr., who joined deputies and officers at the school on the initial call, identified the dead student as William Chavis Raynard Miller Jr. Kimbrough said he met with the family at the hospital.
“I haven't cried in a while, but I've been crying since I left the hospital,” Kimbrough said.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Christina Howell said all other students were safe.
Police blocked roads to the school, which has an enrollment of more than 1,500 students, and numerous emergency vehicles were on the scene. Parents frantic for information parked their cars on the sidewalks several blocks from the school as police directed traffic away from campus. Students and parents could be seen walking toward a nearby shopping center.

“We must work to ensure the safety of students and educators, quickly apprehends the shooter and keep guns off school grounds,” Cooper said.
STUPIDITY! One young life extinguished and another young life destroyed. For nothing.
It took HOURS for parents to get to the kids. The were shuffled to different locations.
It’s a tough call to make. ‘Shelter In Place’ or ‘Get the Heck OUTTA There!’
I’m going to guess that, as always, there’s much, MUCH more to this story - but we probably won’t hear much of it because ONE shooting is easy to stuff under Biden’s rug.
Though, it IS getting a bit crowded under there, what with the 13 soldiers killed last week...and more horrors to come. :(

Interesting that these parents are only interested in the danger their kids are in AFTER A SHOOTING, rather than before they enroll their kids in these ‘free’ public schools.
Hard to feel sorry for these parents - the vast majority had OPTIONS (but yes, giving up the boat or the F150 may have been part of the tradeoff).
Cooper is a doofus. No way will he do anything.

There’s the disconnect.
She was completely unprofessional. Sorry, but it was like blubbering Mary Landrieu. But at least the Katrina go had major devastation and thousand-plus deaths to blubber about. This black woman police spokesman had no emotional control for a presser.
Back when I was in school, students would have guns in their vehicles parked in the school parking lot with the doors unlocked and windows rolled down. No one shot up the school.
Guns are inanimate objects. The only thing that has changed between then and now is the human element. Mental defects. No respect for others. Woe is me played 24/7/365. Little face to face interaction with others. Too much identity confusion. Every little thing has now become offensive.

Same experience, here! We’d hunt whatever was in season after school for an hour or so, then head home for chores and supper and homework. If there were problems between two boys, they fought it out in behind the dumpsters, not shoot one another! If girls fought, you MIGHT get stuck with a metal teasing comb; I mean, it WAS ‘The Time of Big Hair’ when I was in HS, LOL!

You nailed it! *BUMP*
