A North Carolina high school has been placed on lockdown after at least one person was reportedly shot on campus Wednesday, authorities said.
Authorities received a call just after 12 p.m. from a school resource officer about someone shot at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, news station WXII reported.
“There has been a shooting on school property,” the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook. “We and the [Winston-Salem Police Department] have secured the campus and are doing everything possible to keep students safe.”
The sheriff’s office said it had begun transporting all students to the Robinhood Family YMCA.

As suspected with the names in the article, the school is predominately black but just slightly below the state average on testing.

Heard that from presser with the chief(?). Black woman. She did not handle it well at all. Broken up saying this one kid died at hospital.
I feel for her and all, but hold it together as a professional. This was a small shooting and one kid died.
She reminded me of blubbering gov Mary Landrieu. But at least Landrieu had a huge disaster with a thousand dead to blubber about.

Winston-Salem is in Forsyth County and is one of the best places to live in North Carolina. Living in Winston-Salem offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes. In Winston-Salem there are a lot of parks. Many families and young professionals live in Winston-Salem and residents tend to lean liberal.
