* Prescriptions for ivermectin jumped 24-fold in August compared to pre-pandemic levels, the CDC said.
* The drug has been promoted as a cure and treatment for COVID-19, in spite of lack of evidence.
* It's not been approved as a COVID-19 treatment and can be dangerous if not used appropriately.
Ivermectin has been approved for use in humans as an anti-parasitic, but not as a COVID-19 remedy.
More than 88,000 prescriptions for the drug were filled out by pharmacies in the week ending August 13, the CDC said in a report published August 26.
That's about 24 times more than the weekly average number of ivermectin prescriptions filled out in the year before March 13, 2020, when COVID-19 was declared a national emergency in the US, the CDC said.
While there is no data to conclusively support the use of ivermectin to reduce disease and death from COVID-19, high-profile figures including Sens. Ron Johnson and Rand Paul have promoted the drug as an answer to COVID-19.
Both the Food and Drug Administration and the CDC have issued advisories against the dangers of using the misusing ivermectin when using it as a drug against COVID-19.
Inappropriate use of the drug can lead to overdose, potentially causing hallucinations, seizures, coma, and death, the CDC said.
Some users of the drug have complained online about the dangerous effects, including blurry vision, diarrhea, and pooping out what they believed were "worms," as Insider's Andrea Michelson and Madison Hall reported. In July, ivermectin-related calls to poison control centers rose fivefold compared to pre-pandemic levels

baselessly?
My local TSC had it....Co Op too
I keep hearing these articles but am not finding any adverse consequences.
Exactly what I was going to post...
If you're taking Ivermectin and have intestinal worms, that's what's going to happen. That aside, I find it hard to take seriously any publication that uses the term "pooping out," in lieu of something a bit more sophisticated.
Ignore the results in India.
Don’t note the rigged test by the FDA that only used at the very end. Ignore all the past lies by the FDA and CDC.
Great article. /s
NOT baseless.
I bet the owners/publishers at Yahoo own a bunch of stock in big pharma.
India gives out Home Kits that cost like $2.65 per person , how much does the vaccines cost
I’ve seen numerous claims of people being cured of the coof in less than a day with ordinary apple-flavored horse Ivermectin.
I was just looking at this topic last night and found this article.
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41429-021-00430-5
It is about the efficacy of Ivermectin as prophylaxis and treatment. Pretty recent too.
What a load of crap. My sister, brother-in-law, their son, and a shop worker all came down with covid. They have been taking ivermectin and it has made a huge difference. Oh, the shop worker was vaxxed.
“It’s not been approved as a COVID-19 treatment”
Please list all approved treatments. Other than OBEY .
As we all know, medicines have only ever treated a singular illness...
i.e. Aspirin is only for headaches, and helps nothing else.
Science yo!
“lack of evidence”
I wonder why they are ignoring the 30+ controlled experiments that have been conducted on Ivermectin?

Moved from news to chat 🤣
Yeah, doubt you’ll find “pooping out” in the NYT style manual.
OTOH, it does have clarity going for it.
RE: India gives out Home Kits that cost like $2.65 per person , how much does the vaccines cost
Aren’t the vaccines given free of charge everywhere? (OK, I realize it’s been paid for by tax payers, but still.... ).
