Welcome to The Bicycle Thread. A monthly PING List for bicycle enthusiasts to share experiences, information and ideas.
If you ride in a designated separate Bike Line, on a Sidewalk and/or on a Trail that is fine.
If you ride on a roadway. with cars and trucks that go above 15 mph you are creating a hazard for all drivers as well as the bike rider.
Self powered devices are not permitted on Interstate Highways - I wonder why?
You have a right to be stupid - see Darwin Principle.....
In one sense, I agree with him. Bikes should not try and compete with motor vehicles for space.
My city destroyed my bike path that I wanted to start using because I wanted to start riding. It was a direct beeline to work for me.
However, if we want people to ride bikes, there should be pathways built to accomodate them. Pathways, off streets.
Whatever will be most effective in allowing for municipal bike riding.
He would be happier posting his opinions at democratic underground.
There is by btw, a difference between being able to do something and actually doing that something being a wise choice.
I ride my bicycle on some streets, rural roads mostly and still on a road where there is for all practical purposes no traffic, I still take my life and well being into consideration on when/where to ride.
There are drivers, for example...you, who think just because they are in a car and I’m on a bicycle that they are special and I’m a loser. I don’t really personally care what anyone thinks of me but I have as much skin in the road financing game as anyone and as such I have every right to use the roads with a bicycle as long as I obey the laws.
But like liberals, some of you think some things are for your special use only and that you get to make the terms and conditions for their use which does not account for anyone that is not you.
I’m a practical person, personally. I support bike riding as a normal firm of travel, but I do not support them being on main roads where it can be avoided. We should be making use minor roads and residential roads, with pathways cut between houses so there are clear pathways across the city without removing a lane in a main road to accomodate bicycles.
When I road a bicycle full-time, I would use whatever side roads I could to get where I was going. I probably was inconvenienced bynaboutntwo minutes each time I road, but it was worth it in my book. I don’t like idwalogues who think that people have to be squeezed into accepting bicyclists as equals.

I know well your kind of special citizen who enjoys driving 15 mph to slow down people using the road without your permission. As a volunteer firefighter I see it all the time, we get a call and those who normally drive 20 MPH over the speed limit (because they are special, like you), slow down to 20 MPH below the speed limit because they get enjoyment in holding up first responders on the way to a call. You should write a book titled “How to have fun when people use tax financed infrastructure for use that you don’t approve of”. Turn your enjoyable moments into a money maker.
I heard you the first time.
I saw how bad my spelling was, brought to you by Google Spellcheck and clumsy fingers that I just had to correct myself.
yes, ok, all good
I suspect you are not as desperate as TNoldman to acquire a meaningful life for himself.
Radical new electric bike drive system requires no chains or belts, entirely ride-by-wire
Can this drive system for e-bikes even make for anything we define as a bicycle? 🤔🤷♂️🚴♂️
Fatboy - you made my day. Hopefully you will ride carefully and someday be grown up enough to drive a car or truck.
Have a MAGA Day! Down with Biden - UP with Trump !
It wouldn't be so bad if the inconsiderate bastards would ride "in-line" instead of insisting on riding "side-by-side" so they can chit-chat to one another.
Thus sayeth TNoldman “Fatboy - you made my day. Hopefully you will ride carefully and someday be grown up enough to drive a car or truck.
Have a MAGA Day! Down with Biden - UP with Trump !”
First, from the deepest depths of my spleen I appreciate your concern for my future maturity and present safety and well being. Such wisdom, I really hope you are able to publish a guidebook on how we must live our lives. This is needed to protect ourselves from ourselves.
Second, if you are ever in my fire district and need fire, rescue or EMS you will suddenly by angelic revelation decide that I am actually grown up enough to drive a motor vehicle because there is a good chance I’m going to be behind the wheel of one of those big red firetrucks or rescue vehicles coming to assist you in your self-rescue.
I am reminded of a recent rescue we did, a tractor trailer over the guardrail and down a 30 foot embankment. The driver who really should have been in deep prayer of appreciation that he wasn’t deceased, instead was blowing the horn and demanding that we hurry up and get him out of the cab. I explained to him that one of the delays was due to jerks on the road driving 15 MPH for kicks because they thought it was amusing.
You have a nice day now.
For me, the season is just starting!
Down here in Bentonville the temps have rarely gone south of 90 (At least on days I have off).
A friend of mine is bringing his boys and their bikes down here from NYS for a week or so of Bentonville trail boondocking. It’ll be fun. I can catch up with them on a few days and hit some of the trails when the weather cools off.
Hope to see some folks on the trails!
A bicycle library has opened in London to get more people pedalling
Located in an empty shop in Tower Hamlets, the library loans out bikes for free and provides advice for novice riders. Those behind the project hope it will break down barriers that prevent many people from cycling
Not for beginners.
Excellent charity ride accomplishment.
Very impressive distance, time and funds raised.
Thank you for the post.
Did they cancel bingo night TNoldman?
