During Joe’s speech today, he claimed President Trump was responsible for the release of 5000+ Taliban prisoners in 2020.
True. Was part of a deal. Remember, Taliban are the good guys and ISIS-K are the bad guys now. :)
Disregard, the man’s a human turnip.
The 40% that believe the TeeVee or are bluechecks on the Twittsewer will just repeat it as "gospel".
It was part of the deal with the Taliban that Pompeo worked out. Part One, Paragraph C: Source
The last of the 5000 were released last September.
Did Trump bring 5000+ teliban terrorist to America? Because biden just brought in 50000+ in.
We were at a stable stablemate since 2014, when Obama was in office. That could have been maintained while finding other political means to impede the Taliban. Biden abandoned all of it.
4,600 I thought.
No, WE’RE the bad guys. Sheesh!!!!💀😳
A more accurate description is Trump released them early. As we’ve seen they were going to be released anyway,
And JoSixChip serves it up like a pro.
More to come as well. Once the Taliban gives some of the bad guys some passports and asylum paperwork, it’s game over.
Blinken said during his speech last night that he hopes to solve things diplomatically. We just evacuated our embassy. How do work diplomatically with that? Oh and he took no questions. Imagine that.
Taliban released ISIS-K prisoners, Pentagon says
The Taliban released thousands of prisoners, including members of the Islamic State-Khorasan terror group, when they overran Bagram Air Base during their lightning-fast advance through Afghanistan, the Pentagon said Friday.
Well, wasn’t it in Feb 2020 that a US soldier was killed and the President ordered about 5 or 6 dozen bombs dropped on the Taliban.
Wasn’t it President Trump that told the Taliban that if they did anything he would rain ordinance down on them that would, IIRC, like nothing the world has ever seen. Or something to that effect.
Wasn’t it President Trump that had a detailed plan to get people, equipment out and then drop a whole lot of parting gifts on the way out of the door?
Wasn’t it President Trump that said something to the effect, get the US out of there and if they want to go back to fighting each other it isn’t our business and he doesn’t care?
Did not turn the tide. Taliban also released prisoners they held. It was considered a confidence measure and would be considered typical of such agreements.
Obama agreed to release much more substantial Iranian “prisoners” held in the U.S - Billions held in U.S. banks.
Biden makes more of the measure than it was worth.

Thanks! The best posts are those that provide information and they even better if the poster sources it.
I wish there were (a lot) more like yours.
I am all for an on-going military presence in Afghanistan, and Iraq for that matter. I do not give a $hit about what goes on in those hell holes. We can maintain military bases to project power without getting into the business of local tribes killing each other. Bagram was strategically important because it was close to Iran and China. It was also perfect to kill Afghanis acting up - like planting poppy fields or terrorist planning.
There have been base closures in Iraq that have weakened our position there. Bottom line, I don't care about Iraq or Iraqis. I do care about projecting American power so we do not have to fight wars. There is no need for this to cost trillions of dollars.
Having bases in Iraq and Afghanistan that partly surrounds Iran is strategic. Having a base in Afghanistan to project power in western China is strategic. China and Iran are real problems. These pissant Afghanis and Iraqis are not, and if they become a problem we should just kill them. No apologies.
Again. This need not be cost trillions. If this was our original approach (and quite honestly there was a period of time it was) and we didn't invest in nation building, we would be in a much better place today.

Best post on this yet.
True, but mostly irrelevant. The Taliban have an estimated 70,000 to 80,000 fighters, plus a lot of civilian ground support. The Afghanistan army and police forces have an estimated 300,000 to 350,000 men, plus access to modern American military equipment. The 5,000 Taliban released by Trump were in no way the decisive factor in what happened, or even a major one.
They were designated by Bush jr to be prisoners of wat. The Geneva Convention says you must repatriate prisoners of war.
It would have been possible to keep.a presence but dial down the troop presence as the government became more capable.
