I'm going outside and howl the next time I hear anybody say the debacle of the last few weeks is ENDING THE WAR. You don't END A WAR when ONLY 1 SIDE quits/gives up/surrenders. And leaves war fighting gear, people, and dogs to the enemy. Despicable.
We defeated Japan and Germany and Korea. We still have thousands of troops there. We should have done the same thing to Afghanistan. The only option now is to retake Bagram and get all our stuff back. Then kill everybody who tries to stop us.
“We defeated Japan and Germany”
We did not defeat North Korea.
We defeated Japan and Germany by taking away the will to fight away. We bomb their cities and kill their soldiers on the battlefield to the point they did not care who won the war. War is painful you need to bring the pain to the enemy’s living room to win.
Sherman understood war. We need a modern day Sherman.
Islam collectively, just as a matter of doctrine, seeks military victory in all possible theaters of combat and only encourages peacefulness to the extent it allows expanding Muslim power or just rearming.
This is why the first Gulf Wars etc both succeeded and failed.
Coalition forces succeeded in their immediate goals but their goals were limited in relation to the enemy they actually faced once Muslims made it about Islam either post Saddam and post Taliban.
There is an old saying: winners figure out how to win and then go to war, while losers go to war and then try to figure out how to win … but even that doesn’t really apply when talking about either police actions or nation building when significant elements do not want a civil society … which neither the Taliban nor the foreign sourced Islamic death squads who caused so much trouble in Iraq want.
Note that Afghanistan had a civil society before the Russians invaded and even in Iraq under the Ba’ath party before Saddam and which situationally persisted, though constantly eroded. These were not barbaric nations.
But Islam that actually tries to emulate Mohammad in public matters rejects any society not under Sharia .
And lest anyone think I’m crowing in favor of the US relative to them, our own Left is now against a civil society, tolerating and protecting violent extremism advancing socialism and race hatred in addition to class rivalries … indeed advancing perversions and madness over any form of decency and simply accepting basic facts about biology … so they’re not just against a civil society, they’re against nature and the Lord as well.

Agree to all. At least NK hasn’t been aggressive to us in 50+ yrs and SK is free.
Where is General Patton when you need him? Sherman was what was needed at the time. Bag this “nation building” foolishness for ppl still living in the 12th century. If our cowardly politicians and generals had any self respect they would all commit seppeku.
Afghanistan was not and is not “the war”. The war is with jihadists, like the Taliban, ISIS & Al Queda (Islamic militant cousins all) and Afghanistan was just one venue of it. Nothing has “ended”.
We just forfeited. Nothing accomplished during this time.
Not remotely similar.
Afghanistan did not make war on the United States. They even offered to deliver OBL to the US if we requested it though their seventh-century barbarian process.
WE invaded Afghanistan. Once that happened, the war with the Taliban was on. Now, the war is over. They won. We lost.
Losers have to drink the dregs of their defeat, as we now must.
The situation with Japan, and perhaps Germany, was different. Japan made war on us and threatened what we then thought of as vital interests. Our interest in reducing Japan's geopolitical footprint and eventually imposing a different government were imperatives to secure victory.
Germany declared war on us, and threatened allies (the USSR and the UK) who it pleased us to defend.
Victory in Europe involved the total destruction of the German armed forces and the state. Because our ally, the USSR, bore the brunt of the fighting and suffered the most, it was in our interest to prevent their armed forces from moving ahead to the Atlantic Ocean and therefore it became in our interest to stand up a friendly government in the remnants of Germany.
With the Taliban government of Afghanistan, we have the same excellent options that we had in 2001.
It was a serious strategic error to get involved in how they practice their religion, what they do with their women, etc, etc.
To tell them, and mean it, that if they form a base for attacks against the United States they will be subject to genocidal consequences should suffice.
“Surrender often leads to “the killing fields” and genocide, as we saw post collapse of South Vietnam.”
Right and the UN ‘police’ action in Korea as well. When we bugged out, the UN and particularly the US left behind a mountain of hard data about Koreans who had worked with us. It was a betrayal
They were all sacrificed
Simple Rules of Engagement with Muslims -
If Infidels are present, Sunni with unite with Shi’a sects to enslave (physical, sex, monetary), convert, and annihilate all Infidels.
If no Infidels present, Sunni will turn against Shi’a until one or the other is enslaved or annihilated.
The rising population of Muslims over 1200 years shows the effectiveness of their tactics.
The war isn’t over, by a long shot ...
So 20 years of war isn’t enough? You want to go for 30? Or 40?
Nah, nothing like that coming up, to worry about. Heh...
Afghanistan is a tribal society which will now evidently be run by jihadis. We invaded bc it was where 9/11 was planned and trained for....so we are told. While I disagree with some of your conclusions, I agree that we should not be involved with their practice of religion/social constructs (ie nation building). That is the reason I do not want them here. They should have been evaced to neighboring muslim countries where they will fit in.
I fully support a country’s right to have whatever culture they want. Just do not bring it here.
Huh? You mean the tally wackers didnt lay down our arms that we just donated to them? Oh, and no 4473s or NICS either. 😠🐴💩
“When I was a child I thought all wars ended in ‘unconditional surrender.’”
It was lies then, also. We fight civilized wars now. We don’t bomb civilians...we’re told. We don’t use illegal weapons. We don’t kill against the US. We don’t hide anything from the people we protect and defend. We don’t program our future citizens in schools. There are a whole bunch of we don’ts that we do. And no one knows about it except those that have a need to know based upon the rule makers needs, not the citizens.

On that, we agree 100%.
Wow..... there is a person thinking rationally.
Although it is prudent to keep the guard up, there have been negotiations with the Taliban for a very long time. The fact is, I don’t believe that we, the common ordinary, know who the Taliban actually are.
My question is do the elders depicted actually have control of the radical young zealots
The war is coming HERE. And soon.
Or not soon. The Islamic Terrorists have one thing, patience. But make no mistake, they will attack us on our home turf.
Well spoken.
The concept of surrender in War requires warring parties to adhere to some common civilizational norms. I don’t see any of that here.
