This doesn’t end the war any more than the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940 ended the war in Europe.
Someone is going to clack off a vest at a sporting event or a mall or a school, etc.
When I was a child I thought all wars ended in “unconditional surrender.” I became an adult and realized there are lots of nuanced ways to win or lose a war.
And this was a loss for America even more humiliating than our loss in Vietnam. By an order of magnitude.
This doesn’t end the war any more than the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940 ended the war in Europe.
Surrender often leads to “the killing fields” and genocide, as we saw post collapse of South Vietnam. But Trump had all this written in stone, so Joe had no choice.
I watched a bit of local TV news last night. The anchor said “The war on terror is over.” I almost fell out of my chair.
That’s like saying, “The war against Japan is over” after Bataan fell in 1942. That war was just getting started.
And the war on terror is just getting started. Or to put it another way: You might no longer be interested in radical Islam. But radical Islam is still interested in you.
It is possible that the war has in fact ended and perhaps there will be a new, different war with the Emirate of the Taliban.
At present, today, the scope of that war is undefined.
As a matter of fact the enemy is not clearly defined. ISIS K might be the enemy hiding among the Taliban. There might be in process a resurgence of Al Qeada in Afghanistan.fIn consolidating power, the danger and atrocity is to Afghan people and not to us sitting say 10, 000 miles away
Semantics? Perhaps but the commanders must revise all their thinking and strategy in the new war.
“when ONLY 1 SIDE quits/gives up/surrenders.”
When one side surrenders in a war, isn’t that exactly how a war normally ends?
The only next step is for Biden to agree to a humiliating peace treaty with the Taliban.
I’m thinking it’s going to happen in multiple “soft target” locations, over a couple day period.
At least there isn’t a 20 year anniversary of the worst terror attack in American coming up...
“And this was a loss for America even more humiliating than our loss in Vietnam. By an order of magnitude.”
Truth.
Exactly. The war with the Taliban and other Muslim extremist groups didn’t end just because dementia Joe’s handlers had us run away. Those groups are still very much at war with us. Only now the focus of their attention will be us, here, not over there. War and terror are coming to our doorsteps thanks to who ever is pulling Biden’s strings.
“It is possible that the war has in fact ended...”
The “Forever War” has been ongoing since 630CE (”CE” stands for Christian Era). Sometimes one side wins a campaign or battle, sometimes the other side wins, but the war goes on. We just lost a campaign, neither side has lost the war.
“When one side surrenders in a war, isn’t that exactly how a war normally ends?”
No...the side that didn’t surrender has to stop fighting. That is not the case here.....
I expect to be hit here in the homeland within a year. I hope I’m wrong.
> When one side surrenders in a war, isn’t that exactly how a war normally ends? <
True, but only if that surrender is accepted and peace breaks out.
There is no way those ISIS guys are going to go back to just herding goats. And there are plenty of Taliban guys who want revenge for 20 years of infidel occupation.
If I had to guess, I’d guess we’re in only the third inning of this baseball game (so to speak).
Agree with all you have said.
The one issue I have with all the war talk is, I’m not sure the Taliban government of Afghanistan is not the best possible solution within the borders of Afghanistan, and referring to the enemy soldiers of the Taliban as “terrorists” is a mistake.
agree, the dems are masters of language jujitsu. They didn’t end the war, the Islamic radicals are still at war with us until the end of time. We just withdrew from Afghanistan. The war will inevitably come to our borders.
