I have two black children. We use “black” when referring to race, and “African-American” when referring to ethnicity. They also know there is nothing offensive about the terms “negro” or “colored”, though “nigger” in this century is always meant to be a slur. Most of the time we don’t think or talk about it at all.
About a year ago, I was in the local Goodwill looking for books as I sometimes do.
I found a pristine copy of Mark Twain’s ‘Huckleberry Finn’ practically brand new.
I bought it. Inside cover page was stamped, “Declared Excess from library of _____(LOCAL)____ High School”
