No one has a clue how to solve it. It might as well be you! A mathematical background is not really required. Anyone could be the person who dreams up the trick to solve it and walks away a millionaire.

I suspect that someone untrained in mathematics might possibly have some insight to offer. The field of Number Theory is accessible, and yet chock full of interesting but unproven conjectures, such as the famous Goldbach's conjecture.

I had that math problem completely solved. But Global Warming set my proof on fire. Perhaps Greta Thunberg can get me a consolation award. Half the prize will do.

Times 3 + 1 will eventually deliver an even number. From there, divide by two repeatedly until you get to 1.

Since then, it has remained unsolved with its truth not yet verified.

I suspect there is no answer and there is no unsolved problem.

So who actually has the answer or is there really an answer?

I don't understand why it's necessary to multiply odd numbers by three before adding the one to make it even.

By simply adding a one every time you divide by half to get an odd number, you will get down to the number 1 all the faster.

Rain Man and my deceased aunt who was a female versions of Rain Man might have solved it.

Neither would be able to show their work though (proof).
