The story of the complex events that occurred during liberation of Dachau Camp by the US Army in April 1945.

Liberating Dachau 1945 (16mins)

TOPICS: History
KEYWORDS: 42ndinfantry; dachau; history; holocaust; theholocaust; ww2; wwii
I've been posting a few WWII videos recently and find them fascinating, also the Paris - Liberation in August 1944 (in color and HD)(53 mins) shows the Parisians out in the streets enthusiastically greeting the American Troops as they liberate their city.

Enjoy, I sure did.

I enjoy WWII-based documentaries, too. I wish Grandpa had lived long enough to talk about it with me. He was an engineer in the Pacific, specifically tasked with repairing the instruments in our planes. He was also a Chicago PD cop from 1961-1984, but died in ‘86 from an aneurysm.

There was a trunk of stuff from his time there which was supposed to go to me, but was stolen by my great uncle (grandma’s side) because, for some reason, Gran thought it was a good idea to give a klepto a key to her garage and home. -sigh- He’d been a thief his whole life, and she just handed him a key...

Thanks for the share.

Dachau April 1945

My uncle a Grunt was there with The Rainbow Division 42nd Infantry.

The only thing he ever said about it was “I wish I was never there, I wish I had never looked”

He often woke up screaming in the middle of the night.
He hired me when I returned to the world and I worked with him for years.

After he died his daughter ask me about his army stuff, when I mention Dachau my aunt and cousins said they never knew.
