KALAMAZOO, MI — An X-Train party in Kalamazoo saw police trying to disperse a crowd of people dancing on cars and fighting in the streets.

The night of Friday, Aug. 20, and into the early morning Saturday, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to mobile nuisance parties, or X-Trains as they’re colloquially known. These pop-up parties are usually organized over social media at locations around the city, often starting around 2-3 a.m. and lasting until just before sunrise.

Friday night’s initial crowd complaint occurred in the 500 block of Ada Street but progressed as the night wore on.

The areas around Ada Street and Woodbury Avenue and Florence Street and Burrell Avenue were “saturated with vehicles [and] people dancing on top of cars, blocking roadways, and fighting,” police said.

Officers began impounding vehicles participating in the party and impeding traffic, police said, adding this was done only after officers gave participants numerous verbal warnings over a loudspeaker to peacefully disperse.

During officers’ attempts to restore peace, someone threw a glass bottle at them, striking a patrol vehicle’s windshield, police said.

In a separate incident, a person fought with officers during an arrest, police said.

No, she’s not going to lock it down again unless the states case numbers reflect serious conditions. Hospitals are not at capacity.
