As a Floridian - allow me to provide some interpretation. Ron DeSantis is Governor of FL. He is a Republican. He is well liked and perceived as successful by Floridians. There is an expectation that he will run for the 2024 GOP nomination for President, and many here in FL can imagine him succeeding in that. Nationally the Democrats see DeSantis and fear his candidacy. Their allies in the press are carrying water for them by amplifying and distorting negative information about Florida and the Covid pandemic. Having lived here for 14 years and paying close attention to politics and elections here, and knowing something about virology - I am amazed at the efforts that have been made to present FL as this Typhoid Mary among states where things are out of control. Very inaccurate. And it has been consistent throughout the period from March of 2020 to date. The headline should read "Ron DeSantis is an effective and well-liked Governor of FL and the Democrats Fear Him".

All you have said is true. I live in Florida too (Jacksonville, in fact) and the bizarre 24/7 all-Covid all-the-time coverage of DeSantis and Florida makes me furious.

He is also hated by the teachers’ union because he made them get back to work and do their jobs, and they do everything they can to undermine him and keep the Covid hysteria going. They obviously hated being in the classroom and were hoping they’d never have to go back again - but keep those paychecks coming!

Been living in Jax for 10 years. DeSantis is such an outstanding governor I do NOT want him running for President cuz' we need to keep in as our governor. Can you imagine the horror show our state would be right now has DeSantis not defeated his opponent for governor. When there is someone of a like mind & temperament waiting the wings to take his place then he can run for high office if he chooses.
