Here in Texas we’re hearing of ICU being full; how does that correlate with the staffing shortages?

Did they decrease the number of ICU beds due to people not coming in for non covid reasons?

In any given year, I’ve never heard of ICUs not being near full and the fact is that you can’t run the same number of nurses on an ICU as you would on another unit. Staffing proportions are different. One Nurse cannot be assigned as many patients as, say, a med surg unit or maternity. You have a much tighter staff to patient ratio plus not near as many nurses trained for ICU . It’s a very intense job. But I don’t know the situation in Texas and I do know that I have seen whistleblowers come out saying they were lying about it and were moving patients into ICU that didn’t NEED to be in ICU simply to fill a narrative. We posted one here who was outraged because the supervisors were telling them to prepare for an influx of covid. It was a scam. The directors at these hospitals are corrupt. Period. Greedy and evil.

Sorry, WH. I have no on-the-ground info for here in Texas. My son and D-i-L are in another state.

When my husband was in ICU in NC recently they could only use 12 of 14 ICU beds in the smaller hospital because of staff shortage and there were no patients on the corridor set aside for Covid. Raises lots of questions.

Imagine a virus so deadly you have to be tested to find out you have it and a vaccine so safe it has to be forced upon you by the government.

patients that SHOULD be on ICU monitoring are diverted to Acute care floors but if a patient is vented, they may need to even be in ER with a RN or RT with them the whole time....

again, if you don't have the RT's or the RN's, you divert to other hospitals...if they're full, there will be decisions made I'm sure.
