The University of Washington Medical Center denied organ transplants to patients who refuse a COVID vaccine as early as June 2021. And hospital officials refuse to answer basic questions about their policy.
In fact, they won’t even directly acknowledge they have a policy.

I asked a series of specific questions to Gregg and Lisa Brandenburg, president of UW Medicine Hospitals & Clinics.
Is there a written or unwritten policy that will deny transplants to patients based on their COVID status? Will UW Medicine provide transplant operations to unvaccinated patients? When are patients told about the vaccine requirement from their doctor — if it is not, in fact, a written policy? And has UW Medicine conducted any transplants on patients who have NOT been vaccinated? How many have been denied, placed on a status 7, or taken off waitlists for transplants?
Brandenburg did not respond to multiple emails.

Curious as to why the UW would insist on giving a person with an obvious comorbidity one of those killer vaccines in the first place. Doesn’t seem right.

In all fairness, there have always been certain requirements for transplant recipients to be somewhat compliant. Not following through with appointments, medications, substance abuse are considered.
Taking a lot of post op steroids would make you immunocompromised and....
Too bad since it is a great hospital, they saved my ass twice - 2016 and 2020.
We now have a society approved caste system, just like India... We now have “untouchables”.
I received a new liver May of this year. I was on the waiting list for four years. Their was never any mention of requiring me to have the vaccine.I did get the Moderna shots earlier this year, last shot in April. This was at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. They didn’t ask me until AFTER I had the transplant if I had received the vaccine- only because then I wouldn’t have to be tested every time I came in for labs and a follow up appointment.
Wow, that scares the hell outta me. I’ll have to ask my doctor about that at my next appointment. Not that it matters NOW, but now I am curious.
