The White House confirmed that it is relying on the Taliban to help provide safe passage for civilians looking to evacuate Afghanistan as the State Department warns US civilians there to 'shelter in place' until it is safe to leave.
On Tuesday, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters that the Biden administration was in contact with the Taliban, who committed to ensuring US citizens exit the country safely.
'The Taliban have informed us that they are prepared to provide the safe passage of civilians to the airport, and we intend to hold them to that commitment,' Sullivan said.
The deal comes just six weeks after president Biden stated 'No, I do not trust the Taliban.'
Sullivan addressed reports of Taliban fighters beating Afghans attempting to enter the airport in Kabul.
He said for the most part the Taliban is keeping up their end of the deal.

Mitch McConnell bears a large portion of the responsibility for the election of Joe Biden. And Mitch needs to pay big time.
RINO-controlled state legislatures who gave the Steal to Potato Joe on a platter will have blood on their hands as soon as the first American is executed by the Taliban.
_____________
do you honestly think they care?
The only thing they care about is how to get as many Afghani refugees into this country to guarantee the permanence of the Deep State in power.
I would expect them to extort each country—one at a time—for whatever concessions they want (money, recognition, business concessions, etc.).

You could easily be right about the Taliban.
But I am influenced by the deal Trump was attempting to make with the Taliban - the so called Doha Agreement. In negotiating that agreement the only leverage Trump had was the Taliban desire for legitimacy. He was offering a final withdrawal of American troops and participation in the Afghan government and (I assume) the threat of massive U.S. retaliation if the Taliban didn’t live up to the bargain.
AFAIK, that deal died last November.
But I believe that the Taliban want legitimacy.
Stay tuned. One of us is right. I’m just guessing too.
Biden & Harris are COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT. They OWN THIS MASSIVE DEBACLE in Afghanistan. And every other naive liberal Democrat who voted for these CLOWNS also OWN THIS MASSIVE DEBACLE. I spent a year of my life there and to see 20 years of work, trillions of dollars, 2500 US Military brothers and sisters killed there - all destroyed by these IDIOTS in a few days. Thousands of Afghan women and children will be raped and murdered because of their ABJECT STUPIDITY. They gave up Bagram AFB, released 6-7K Taliban prisoners (we’ll have to fight again elsewhere), 10-40K Americans are left behind, along with thousands more Afghans who helped us in the fight. This all makes me very angry.
We both could be right—if the Taliban do not fear Biden but did fear Trump...
lotta NGOs
