@MaajidNawaz
Let’s be real, if this were on Trump’s watch all of you in MSM & trendy Twitter would be unrelentingly blaming him directly on all your front pages & timelines by now.
We all see through you.
Be honest or be quiet.

LOL Tell her to alway stand uprange of him. Better yet, don’t...
The way to ultimately get rid of him and Kamala is to strictly enforce them.

Remember this 1984 Afghan refugee (12 yo)? It was just in 2017 when National Geographic wrote a followup piece on how she now was widowed with 4 children of her own and had a lovely big house in Kabul. Now one will be wondering if she can live with the west-hating Taliban or if she will again become a refugee.
Cheney helped throw out Trump’s withdrawal plan, and supported this mess.
The fathers of the Afghan occupation, GW Bush and Cheney are oddly silent during the Taliban takeover; yet when Trump is being targeted on much more minor issues, they are very public and fulsome in their two-faced criticism.
The neocons, IC folks, and media puppets are already blaming Trump for this. The reality is that the Bush/Cheney administration is ultimately the most responsible for this (with every Presidential administration after also having made bad choices), but they will never accept any blame for 20 years of hell. And while they have to keep up some appearances, they can’t be too hard on Team Biden for messing up the actual withdrawal because they did everything they could to get him elected. Biden is their baby. So, they try to shift the focus to Trump for the negotiation and decision to leave. That’s all they’ve got.
True but, as much as I hate writing this, Bush'43 had reason to go into there! The Taliban made Afghanistan a safe-haven for Osama bin Laden & al-Qaeda, with training camps and support. The 09/11/01 attacks were planned and coordinated from there. So, once that responsibility was uncovered, what was he to do?
Afghanistan has been a quagmire for every foreign invader or even attempted friend. Neither the Mongols nor Timur-the-Lame could do more than act like they had conquered it. The British Raj learned to leave it as a barrier against Imperial Russia thrusting into India. Read Kipling and see why the Brits gave up.
The Soviets lost their soul there as a step too far. Yes, the USofA supported the Afghans there but they never had any love or gratitude. And, like our efforts in the Bosnia morass should have taught us, Islam is antagonistic to non-Islam.
So now we have our comeuppance in this same land of poppy fields and Islamic / tribal hatreds. Our excuse was that we spent blood and money trying to improve their bleak backwardness, only to have it stolen over & over again. I look at this and think if we should have just negotiated from a B-52. So sad!
Bush couldn’t even get OBL. Obama got him....in Pakistan!
Bush just wanted a convenient excuse to go into the Middle East and avenge the almost assassination of his daddy.
Liz Cheney blames Trump, yet her father and GWB went into Iraq diverting resources from Afghanistan. What did her father’s Administration accomplish with when they were in control?
There were never any good options in Afghanistan, and the reason is Pakistan. We have allowed Pakistan to operate around the edges of Islamic fundamentalism for forty years now, and rewarded it with full benefits of membership in the international community. They fund the Taliban and without Pakistan’s support they could easily have been neutralized.
They even took in bin Laden, lied to us (so the story goes) and housed him in their equivalent of Quantico (Abbottabad is a military enclave that is a suburb of the capital city of Pakistan, Islamabad).
Bin Laden (again, so the story goes) was only in Afghanistan briefly after 9/11 and escaped during the fighting in the winter of 2001-02. It appears that he was in that safe house in Pakistan for most of the time we were fruitlessly trying to build up a sustainable moderate government in Kabul.
This has been basically a comedy of errors with facts that are not necessarily truths. But if anyone thought they could build a moderate democracy in Afghanistan, well, it wasn’t possible in Iraq, perhaps a better prospect, so why would anyone think they could do that in Afghanistan. The place will never be anything but either a corrupt hell-hole or a nightmare seventh century thug state.
Under Trump it wouldn’t have happened; he had the Taliban in his sights and would have used several drones to take them out. Media of course would be horrified over the killing.
