The link tells the story of the growing crime. Here is a DFU report of the crime while visiting the grandkids in Tacoma.
Late at night, perhaps around 11pm, a neighbor across the street was returning home from work and saw a lowlife scumbag or scumbags attempting to steal our Honda Element catalytic converter. They had cut through one pipe and almost through the other, but they fled the scene when they realized the neighbor saw what they were doing. The catalytic converter now hangs on the ground and I have to get it repaired or replaced. Thank you, scumbags. Thank all the aholes who do not support the police and wanted these kinds of crimes to be overlooked. Hence, we are watching our society being destroyed by these lowlife scumbag criminals --- BLM, ANTIFA, the communist DemocRATS, those who organized and perpetrated the theft of the 2020 election, and the George Soros district attorneys who do not throw their asses in jail. Defund the police? My ass! The elitists have private security so they have no problems with crime. As for the rest of us, the same elitists want to take away our guns. We are living frigging 1984/Brave New World/and Animal Farm. "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." ...George Orwell.
As an aside, when the report asks about gender --- male, female, unknown --- here is a tip to all those who have trouble determining the correct answer. Look in your pants and it should be pretty much self evident.

Darn shame if the thieves got shot someday. Darn shame.
It ain’t just Tacoma. Our neighborhood in Reno has been seeing a rash of them. Quite a few on camera. Some even around 6:00 a.m. Hydraulic floor jack, battery recip saw. Boom gone. Of course if you have a garage perhaps clean it out and park in it. Unless you have a chevy EV. Do NOT park them in enclosed areas. Hear local scrap yards are paying $250-$300 for them. Why aren’t they balking at buying them? Probably because they’re getting double when they resell? Anyone? Bueller?
I need to research the costs in adding the shield to cover the converter
Its getting so bad that someone broke in my garage and heisted 125 of the catalytic converters I stole!
Say goodbye to the parts catalytic
Stolen by perps parasitic
We just couldn’t hide
The goodies inside
And gone are what made our motors tick.
The alien Bezos look...someone should put her on a rocket.
If you had 125 in inventory that just shows you were rich, and you had it coming. Doncha know today's peeps are allowed a maximum of 3 converters in their possession for personal use. Four or more require a dealer's license.
More converters will be stolen because of the border being open.
Can I report this post as elder abuse? My eyes! My eyes!
I live in Tacoma and in a gated community. We have had a few stolen. But here is a few ways to protect yourself:
When possible, park in well-lit areas and close to building entrances.
If you have a garage at your house, park your car inside and keep the garage door shut.
Have the catalytic converter welded to your car’s frame, which may make it harder to steal.
Consider engraving your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the catalytic converter — this may help alert a scrap dealer that it was stolen and make it easier to identify the owner.
Calibrate your car’s alarm to set off when it detects vibration.
A cat shield is a strong-build aluminum plate designed to “deter” catalytic converter theft, not stop them. Fortunately due to compromises in quality, most reputable dealerships have taken it upon themselves to provide these cat shields. It may be costy as many go for around $350 and in many cases added to the cost of the vehicle. But between the cost of repair, the other damage on the car from the crime, and inconvenience, it is generally worth it.

Sadly these thieves don’t much care if they get shot. They want to steal something worth a few dollars to afford a little meth. It’s really that simple.
1 bullet plus 1 scumbag is very simple meth, er, math.
It’s happening all over. Had a half dozen pilfered at a local college about a month ago.
New auto sales down?
About 30 years ago, thieves chiseled through the door sheet metal on my wife’s Jetta to get to the door latch.
Then they crowbarred the plastic dash to bits getting the Blaupunkt stereo unit out. Total repair bill was probably $3,000. All so the junkie could get $25 for a desperately needed drug fix.
Not to mention that some of them are also armed. Had someone in Maple Valley (NE of Tacoma) who was getting his catalytic converter stolen. He confronted the thief and the thief pulled a gun and shot at him. Thankfully the people missed.
Leave a puddle of water from a dripping hose under your car, and hook the live side of an AC plug to your car body.
Be sure to unplug it before you drive away.
I wonder if electrocuted scumbag organs are worth anything on the black market.
Just dreaming....
