Total vaccination numbers up as cities announce vaccine mandates

Total vaccination numbers in the U.S. are at the highest they have been in more than a month as companies, organizations and, most recently, cities have begun announcing vaccine mandates. At the same time, Covid cases have also climbed around the country, driven by the highly contagious delta variant.

White House chief of staff Ronald Klain said in a post on Twitter Friday that Covid vaccinations had reached their highest 24-hour total since before July 4, with 918,000 doses administered and 576,000 newly vaccinated, up from 821,000 and 565,000 respectively last Friday.

This comes in a week that has seen reported Covid case counts at the level of November 2020 and a seven-day average of more than 140,000 cases per day, according to NBC News' tally.

"Vaccine requirements and incentives are starting to pay off — as well as the tragedy of seeing so much needless illness and loss due to Delta's impact on the unvaccinated," Klain wrote.

It’s too much to sacrifice for her to remain unvaxxed. Sports in school, college, travel, anywhere inside in SF or in Los Angeles, employment: she wants to do all those things.

And I fear neither the virus nor the vaccine. The chance of her having any ill effects from either is vanishingly small.

I wouldn’t call attending her brother’s wedding superficial or materialistic, and to travel there requires the vaccine. Neither is attending college, which requires the vaccine. Going to a grocery store or any indoor space in LA or SF is neither superficial nor materialistic, and now they both require vaccination.

More and more, the longer she remains unvaxxed the more and more she will “othered,” confined to the home and restricted from more and more of society to live as a hermit. She doesn’t want that and neither do I. We are just being realistic.

No problem—in fact I just read the Moderna will be approved for under 18s in September; maybe we will hold out for that one as I think the Moderna is better in several ways than the Pfizer from what I’ve read.

I’d prefer the J&J for my teen if they’d just fix their blood clot problem, because that’s the more traditional and less experimental vaccine.

It will be interesting to see which one gets FDA approval first (not that I care that much about that; I’m a federal employee very familiar with the concept of rubber stamping).

It sounds like you had already decided on what to do before asking for opinions here.

And, my guess is, nothing you’ve read has changed your mind.

Ultimately, it should be up to the individual whether to get the vaxx or not.

Who else will experience the health consequences more than the receiver, no matter what advice or counsel was received first?

Voluntary consent after being informed about possible adverse consequences is the principle and rule we should follow, but it looks like the clock will run out on this option.

Hopefully, there will only be good health consequences from the vaxx … in addition to being allowed to access life again.

So many are now dependent on this being true and those who choose to not be dependent are to be coerced or shunned!

Fascinating. What could go wrong?

We’ll just have to wait and see. Flu season is coming and we’ll get an education.

Thanks; I do read all opinions and just wanted to present a point of view that isn’t discussed much here: there are some of us parents who are facing the problem of what to do with a teen at very low risk from the virus and very low risk from the vaccine but very high risk of being shut out of many important life activities including shopping for food in a grocery store (particularly if living in a blue state) if remaining unvaxxed much longer.

It’s odd and sad to make a health choice not based on health, but based on government restrictions.

I have very pro-vaxx friend with an anti-vaxx, 30s-something, adult son and he believes he should be able to force his son to get the vaxx, just like he, his wife and other adult son have done.

I think his son might be the only one left to carry their genetics forward intact, as God designed them to be.

Once the last son is vaxxed, their genetic line has been lost, their DNA is potentially now forever changed by the vaxx … and hopefully in a good way, right? Hmmm … I wonder what Mother Nature will say … 🤔

The push to do this seems both Biblically reminiscent of the mark of the beast, and also many of the science fiction/horror fantasy books I read and enjoyed being scared chitless by in my youth. Good times …

But, too real now to not be scared for real now and I’m gettin’ there.

I’ve seen human nature naked before. Not pretty. And I’m one of those pre-GPS guys who likes to read the map.

Buckle up. We’re on the wrong road and going way too fast, in my ever-so-humble opinion.

Attending a wedding is a one time event for whom? Certainly not the guests. I do think this is non-essential in life. Now attending said brothers 20-30-40 year anniversary surely is something to celebrate. College-sorry, but this IS a choice. There are other alternatives, same as grocery shopping. The question is, what do you value in life?
It is your choice, I’m just saying that so many people see things as “I have no other choice...”, when in reality, there is always another viable choice. Good luck, hope your son DOES remain married for many years and I hope to God that nothing happens to your daughter. Cheers.

So you are recommending my daughter should quit her sports team, withdraw from her private Christian school, never travel again, never attend family events that are outside private homes, never attend college, never go indoors again in the cities SF or LA, with more cities likely added daily? Just to avoid a vaccine (that I agree she does not need medically) that is helpful to many (true, not her) in avoiding hospitalization due to covid?

Who would want to live a life like this, forced to stay at home forever and withdraw from society completely? That’s no life at all.

I’ve been standing up a lot! Last year I attended every school board meeting, went to 7 reopen schools rallies, 2 reopen sports rallies, and 3 signature gathering events to recall the school board. I also gathered lots of signatures to recall Newsom. My large, fabulous church is maskless in defiance of the county and state order.

Rationalize it all you want. By your own admission, you are letting her get it so she can do what she wants, not for medical reasons. That IS an easy vs hard choice. Instead of fighting for what you believe, you are caving to the pressure put on you to conform to something that is based on a lie and destroys the sovereignty a person should have over their own body.

You, and everyone like you that caves, give the would be tyrants that much more power. It emboldens them to take another step towards totalitarianism. Soon, they'll be embolden enough that they will make things like this compulsory, because they know people like you will not stand up and take a stand, lest it interrupts their life too much. People that are trying their best to stand on there principles in this evolving dystopian world will face a choice of their morals, or the barrel of a gun.

Don't think it will happen? Read your history. The freedom and ability to thrive as individuals that Americans have enjoyed are an anomaly in the human epoch. The standard is brutality and subjugation. People like you are just pissing those freedoms away just so they can go back to living the "normal" life they had before all this idiocy started.

Don't bother responding back, because at this point nothing you say on the matter holds any weight with me. You've openly declared which side you are choosing in this fight. Thanks and I do appreciate your opinion. But I’m not scared of either the virus or the vaccine. What my daughter and I fear much more is being shut out of society—travel, sports, school, restaurants, public events. I wouldn’t want to live in a world without access to those basic things.

I suppose it is “rationalizing” as it is a rational, not an irrational, decision. I’m a very practical person. If choosing a non-hermit life is “caving in,” so be it. I comply with most laws/regulations from the state, whether or not I like them.

I commend you on all the standing up. I really do. I’m glad that your church is defiant (not enough of them in the country). I have the good fortune of living in Florida. So, yes, is easy for me to say these things. My only point is, that there are other choices. It is about priorities. Example: my mother-in-law is very ill and will likely be gone soon. My wife is not going to get the “vaccine”, to travel through canada to see her mother one more time. Hard choice, but an alternative to what we see as priority in our life. We will see her on the other side.
