Melton spoke about how many people find themselves in this kind of trouble saying, “There is probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 to 30 thousand people in the Dallas county area… but it’s a significant number of people.”
While the federal government has extended the current eviction ban until October, Melton says people are still being evicted in Texas.
He added, “On April 1st the state took the position that this federal moratorium just didn’t apply here in the state of Texas, and they’ve been evicting people at the discretion of the landlords.”

How many stopped paying rent and spent the money on other things ?
Well, perhaps those renters should have saved some of their federal and state unemployment benefits instead of purchasing alcohol, weed and big screen tvs. I know a couple people in California that were receiving over $500/week from the state and $600/week from the fed. Sorry but if they didn’t budget and plan ahead that’s tough beans for them.
I remember schools teaching the story of the ant and the grasshopper. I guess they don’t anymore.
What part of their $300 a week unemployment bonus or thousands of dollars in stimulus bonuses did they spend on their rent?
None you say?
Well then I hope there is still room under a bridge and they will be comfortable there.
Life’s a bitch ain’t it?
That is what they deserve.
Good. And President Biden extending it in defiance of the Supreme Court is an unambiguous impeachable offense.
sounds reassuring to be a landlord /private property owner in Texas
Why is their no filing with the USSC for emergency action to stop the CDC? No one seems to know.
Wrong!
Eviction is a win for the owner renting the property.
The renter should pay the rent or get out.
The grasshopper is getting freebies taken from the ants … wait … has America become a bug cartoon?
How many of these renters paid their rents with the stimulus checks and unemployment money? Not many I bet.
Get. A. Job!
Duh. Congress has appropriated the aid. Do the F-n paperwork!
About 70% in my buddies 20 unit building.
When his grand parents bought it it was in a good part of town.
Now? Not so much.
He still has to fix things when they break so he gets to see what his rent money has bought.
If you are a landlord, at the end of the current lease term convert all of your leases to month-to-month leases. This is the way around all of this nonsense. This applies in South Carolina. This way, at the end of a month the lease term is over. You can give the tenant a 30-day notice that you aren’t renewing the lease, hence, you aren’t throwing them out for nonpayment of rent. You are just not renewing the lease. Have gotten 3 tenants out this way in the last 2 months.
Today a tenant called in upset after she noticed that we received her assistance check, but that we only credited her $9k, when she had expected $25k. She accused us of taking the rest of “her” money. We had to point out that $25k was the maximum amount that could be awarded, and that she didn’t owe enough rent to qualify for that amount. I bet she had already spent that $16k in her mind, maybe even on her credit cards.
I think it has. The ants were Randians.
Good for Texas. Thumbed their nose at Biden and his unconstitutional mandate of deadbeats.
