How long would it have taken rabid, radical leftists to respond if the Trump Department of Justice had held Antifa defendants in jail for seven months without trial? Half a millisecond?
Hundreds, yes hundreds of Trump-supporters at the Capitol have been held for seven months without trial. Other than a timid protest by a few conservative House Republicans, this writer is unaware of demands that these political detainees — how otherwise explain their detention by Biden's attorney general Garland (and thank the Almighty he was not put on the Supreme Court) — be given a fair and speedy trial?
Following a story in The Washington Post that a federal judge has constitutional concerns about one case involving a few of the detainees, The New York Times recognized, in its August 11 print edition, that the constitutional right of the detainees to a speedy trial is going by the boards, as trials are supposed to begin within 70 days of indictment.
Here it is more than seven months after January 6, 2021, the date of the Capitol incursion.
Isn't this an occasion for the filing of habeas corpus writs? What is going on here — political justice of the sort that Judge Emmet G. Sullivan imposed on Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, maintaining a prosecution that the government sought to be dismissed? And by the way, the Times article on the absence of a speedy trial for the "Jan. 6" detainees ended with the writer, Alan Feuer, quoting political judge Sullivan:
"[Judge Sullivan] suggested that the fault [for the delay in bringing the cases to trial] lay not [with the government] but in the number of rioters who breached the Capitol.

I think the strategy is to keep the 1/6 people in jail for maybe 1 year and then offer them a deal, plead guilty to something in exchange for time served....
I think the Feds want to avoid trials, because of number of trials that would be involved and they would have to turn over video and other evidence that could change the perception of what happened and who instigated everything....

I’m glad you are posting this. Think of all those Olympics’ threads running simultaneously while this issue has gone largely ignored. We need to get behind the few GOP representatives that are willing to make waves about this miscarriage of justice. We need to demand the immediate removal of all Department of Justice and FBI officials who were part of the guerrilla theatre of January 6th.
I agree. The Uniparty wants a large number of guilty pleas so they can use that as a talking point to damage Trump and the MAGA agenda. Never mind that the guilty pleas are for jaywalking inside the capitol and not armed “insurrection”.

That’s probably correct- because think about the alternative outcome- they have accused these people of treason- do they want to start building gallows to hang 600 people?
Some of them are guilty of serious crimes (smashing things and actually breaking-in) but many of them just walked in the door, held open to them by the capital police themselves.
Let him serve a little time in that particular correction facility first, with the same rights the political prisoners are (not) getting. Then just before he is no longer permitted in any kind of “public service” ever again, let him know in no uncertain terms that the American public takes a dim view of wayward judges.
