How Sweden Triumphed over COVID
American Thinker ^ | 10 Aug, 2021 | William Sullivan

There stands Sweden, openly mocking the leftists’ most sacred orthodoxy of the moment.

Earlier this year, Sweden’s top health official, Johan Carlson, felt obligated to tell the world how wrong everyone else was. “Some believed that it was possible to eliminate disease transmission by shutting down society,” he said. “We did not believe that and we have been proven right.”

Is he right? The three-day moving average for COVID deaths in Sweden is frequently zero these days, and hasn’t been in double digits since May. Sweden has seen a lower mortality rate than most of Europe in 2020. That wasn’t the prediction. Sweden never mandated masks, nor did its citizens adopt masking in any significant way. Sweden never shut down schools for its youngest pupils, nor restaurants or retail stores. All of the supposed “experts” said that such a non-interventionist response would lead to Sweden becoming a tragic cautionary tale for the rest of us.

Coerced lockdowns and masks must be the only viable solutions, progressives told us for over a year, because their “experts” like Anthony Fauci said that was what “the science” demanded.

And yet, there proudly stands Sweden, openly mocking the leftists’ most sacred orthodoxy of the moment.

But Sweden’s relative success isn’t limited its medical outcomes. Not only did Sweden avoid the ravages of the virus in terms of death rates, but its citizens are unquestionably happier and more readily poised for the future. According to a new Pew Research poll, 86 percent of Swedes say the current economic situation is good, which dwarfs the assessments of Brits (44 percent), Canadians (49 percent), or the French (26 percent). Sweden’s citizens are most likely, among a host of world nations, to say that their government did a “good job” in handling the 2020 pandemic.

The author presumes that many of these countries were taking measures for the good of their citizens. If you take the view that the leftist leadership wanted power, control and to wreck the existing order and economy then Sweden was not successful at all. The big winners are the leftist control freaks.

Native Swedes are also more respectful of distancing and hygiene and other common sense (non Nanny Government) ideas on safety. Unfortunately, in many other countries like the United States and Canada, too many people want a free lunch and do not respect even the most basic of proper common sense and moral standards.

I wonder if any respected, honest, researchers at Harvard,Columbia,Hopkins,Mayo Clinic, etc will do a minutely detailed study of the Wuhan Flu and how it was handled in different states...and countries. I'm talking about a study that results in an Excel file of 1,575 “pages” and is a gigabyte in size. And if such a study was done I wonder what coverage it would get in the Amazon Compost.

You are missing the point entirely.

Distancing and hygiene are not what spared Sweden the trauma experienced everywhere else. Quite the contrary.

The natural immune system depends on exposure - the kind of exposure that takes place when we live our lives. Greetings, gatherings, shopping, commuting to work, public transportation, dining and entertainment.

Even touching hand railings is part of it. The immune system can’t recognize the virus and mount a defense until it is exposed to it.

Fauci and others like him all over the world created a panic and led us into distancing and avoidance behavior that was the opposite of the way humans evolved to deal with this sort of threat.

“Flattening the curve” was a mistake. All that did was give the virus more time to spread while delaying the imune response.

Sweden’s success is due to ignoring people like Fauci.

By the way, many in the USA ignored Fauci too, and I’m we’re just fine health wise - the only problem is non-health - the world around us has gone mad - stolen elections - a senile President - open borders - tripled gas prices…

All because Fauci was able to make the weak and the stupid panic.

One of the arguments used used by the Left regarding Sweden is that they are a relatively sparsely populated country, so what works there does not necessarily work elsewhere.

...all good and fine, but they’re also a very dark and cold country in the winter - and what do people do when it’s dark and cold? They go indoors. So they spent last winter indoors, a year into the virus, and still nothing terrible happened to them.

Now if they’d only put a stop to their re-population program...

IMHO it's exposure/natural immunity leveraged by an aggressive vaccination campaign. There's already growing evidence, in the UK, Israel and elsewhere, that natural exposure + vaccination is the gold standard for strong resistance against the disease. The vaccination rate, or at least partial vaccination rate, in Sweden now exceeds that of the USA.

Perhaps they recognized it as a bad case of the common flu and decided to not panic like the idiots in the rest of the world.

But there’s a huge difference between Sweden’s vaccination roll out and ours. They beat the virus first with natural immunity and then vaccinated as a chaser - we vaccinated while the virus was still accelerating

This goes against the science - you don’t vaccinate into the teeth if a pandemic - or risk breeding a super variant that knows how to resist the vaccine. If it’s still widespread, you are literally teaching the virus how to resist the vaccine.

Sweden did not make that mistake. Greedy Fauci did.
