Dr. Anthony Fauci, whose “expert” advice to President Trump has resulted in the complete shutdown of the greatest economic engine in world history, has known since 2005 that chloroquine is an effective inhibitor of coronaviruses.
How did he know this? Because of research done by the National Institutes of Health, of which he is the director. In connection with the SARS outbreak - caused by a coronavirus dubbed SARS- CoV - the NIH researched chloroquine and concluded that it was effective at stopping the SARS coronavirus in its tracks. The COVID-19 bug is likewise a coronavirus, labeled SARS-CoV-2. While not exactly the same virus as SARS-CoV-1, it is genetically related to it, and shares 79% of its genome, as the name SARS-CoV-2 implies. They both use the same host cell receptor, which is what viruses use to gain entry to the cell and infect the victim.
The Virology Journal - the official publication of Dr. Fauci’s National Institutes of Health - published what is now a blockbuster article on August 22, 2005, under the heading - get ready for this - “Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.”

Hydroxychloroquine is an “ionophore” that opens the cell doors to let in zinc, which inhibits or prevents the virus from replicating. There are other ionophores, but hydroxychoroquine is very effective & has been most often used.
In late March of last year, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed an executive order preventing hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine from being used to treat patients with the Wuhan coronavirus, just when Dr. Zelenko was treating patients with it, desperately trying to keep them out of the hospitals, which at that time were pretty much death traps if you were sick enough to have to go to a hospital.
After researching, looking for over-the-counter ionophores, Zelenko came up with Quercitin & epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG found in green tea). Both are included in his prophylactic protocols if you cannot get hyroxychloroquine.

Fauci was an administrator (albeit a very poor one - even for an administrator). His medical degree was, well, something that he got in order to become an administrator because I pity any unfortunate patient that went to him for actual medical advice had he ever practiced real medicine (you know, the medicine where the physician actually helps the patient).
As such, he soooooo fits the swamp and the ever-increasing collection of marshmallow major pretenders infecting D.C.

Fauci’s job under Phemce was to develop drugs to treat potential public health emergencies such as a SARS epidemic.
He did nothing. Ignored beta coronaviruses completely for 15 years.

President Trump’s big mistake was in underestimating how deep the swamp was. Starting with Sessions’s sell out on “Russia, Russia, Russia”, it was one knife in the back after another from his own administration.
