America showed once again why it is the powerhouse in women's beach volleyball when it seized Olympic gold in Tokyo, meaning it has provided more Olympic champions than the rest of the world combined.
April Ross and Alix Klineman were the stars of the event and their gold medal was the USA's 4th in the event with golds going to only three other countries in the history of the competition.
The US duo beat Australians Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar in straight sets in blistering 104F temperatures.

It’s called the SUMMER Olympics for a reason.
Eventually the standard beach volleyball uni will be some sort of head to toe sun suit, at least for any of the young ladies who wish to live long lives. Especially, frankly, the white European/American ones. Maybe less so for the darker skinned ones, if it's permitted to say such a thing.
They did a story on the two of them yesterday, telling of how they became volleyball partners. They showed them inside an apartment, and they looked very attractive.
Volleyball is still populated, generally, by normal people. I'm sure the lefties are licking their chops to ruin that sport as well.
I don’t know how old these ladies are, but I got religion before I was thirty. And I was never a sun worshipper.
I get a certain amount of unprotected sun a week, but then it’s sunscreen, protective clothing, brimmed hat, sunglasses...
If I played competitively, I’d be wearing something that covered my shoulders, torso, and butt at the very least.
And sunscreen on the face and ears.

Not so. Depends on your training conditions. If you spent your girlhood bouncing about on 100F+ beaches you’d have an advantage over most anyone not silly enough to spend that much time baking their brains out in the sun.

I noticed the same thing. The headline was written in a way to imply that the American team overcame the high-temperature conditions as though it were a special disadvantage for them. In reality, everyone was subjected to exactly the same hot conditions. I think the high temperature was still relevant to the story, but the writer should have written “...in blistering 104F...” instead of “...despite blistering 104F...”
In any case, congratulations to US athletes April Ross and Alix Klineman for winning the gold.
Look forward to seeing it in National Geographic.
